If you want to get away from it all, Golant is a delightful little village with one pub which serves excellent food. It is essential to have a car as there are no shops locally. The cottage is best described as compact and quirky as many of the owners' original ornaments (and furniture) fill the rooms - so possibly not to everyone's taste although the record players and LPs will appeal to the nostalgic! Some furniture is looking a little shabby (rugs in particular) but everything was clean and tidy and kitchen and bathrooms had been modernised. The garden however, was a delight. Lush and heavily planted with a little stream running through it, it was a real sun trap with views of the river. The drive was just big enough for 3 cars to park on, which was also a bonus as the streets are too narrow for parking. ...

Lovely cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There are lots of places to visit in the surrounding area. Also some great places to eat eg. Sam’s (Fowey), Captain Hank’s Crab Shack (Fowey), and the New Inn pub (Tywardreath) serve a fantastic Sunday lunch. There are fishing trips from Looe and Mevagissey but these are best booked in advance. There are also speed boat trips (Sea Safari) from Looe which take you around Looe Island where there are seals and along the coast to Polkerris. On the doorstep in Golant is a water sports centre where you can learn to paddle board, kayak or canoe. You can also buy yummy Cornish pasties here and Jules makes a great coffee. There are tables outside where you can sit with your refreshments and look at the river....

Lovely, comfortable holiday home with everything we needed. Great location and also quiet and peaceful

Golant is a peaceful and pretty destination and the surrounding area has a lot to commend it. The Sheiling, however, is tired and in need of much TLC. To start with the positives, it has a garden which is a delight, a very comfortable bed which afforded a good nights' sleep and a shower which was both hot and powerful. However, the presentation of the property we found to be sad and depressing. There were stains on walls, peeling paint and soft furnishings which were threadbare and had seen better days. We also discovered cleaning issues and safety issues with the electrics. We contacted Classic who were prompt in coming out to see us. They were thorough and professional in listening to our concerns and promised some changes going forward. We were also reassured that the electric issues would be rectified. This could be such a lovely holiday home but in it's present condition, it wasn't for us. ...

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review following your stay at The Sheiling and we're so pleased to hear that the lovely location worked well for you. We're sorry that there were some areas that didn't meet your expectations on this occasion and we're very grateful to you for letting us investigate the points raised whilst you were in residence. We do try our best to be as honest as we can with our online photos and descriptions and believe that we do show a true reflection of this comfortable and traditional property. The Sheiling is an extremely popular property with a high turnover of guests throughout the season and the owner does have an on-going maintenance programme to ensure that refreshing takes place as and when possible. We have removed the cushion that had been well-used and have also approached the owner to ensure that the extension leads are not overloaded moving forwards. We were pleased to confirm with you, whilst you were on holiday, that the PAT testing of all appliances was in date. We've asked the housekeeper to pay some special attention to the areas around the doorhandles and spaces where some cobwebs had collected on future changeovers, so thank you for bringing this to our attention. We're so glad that we were able to reach a satisfactory resolution for you and hope we can welcome you back the south west in the future. Tressa, Customer Support ...

What a gem of a cottage! It is very well equipped with really comfortable beds and lovely outside area. The village is very friendly and having a pub within walking distance was an added bonus. We even had entertainment from a local folk group who met to sing together on the Sunday evening....
