There are plenty of beaches to explore within easy reach. Compton Bay is a popular spot for surfers due to the waves that form when the south-westerly wind is blowing on shore, and you can even see dinosaur footprints when the tide is out - it's one of the best locations to search for fossils, hours of fun for all the family.

Colwell Bay, on the western shore, is a mixture of sand and shingle. With calm shallow waters it is more suited for swimming and snorkelling. You can finish the day with dinner at The Hut, a high-quality dining experience offering superb seafood and a picturesque waterfront location. Please book in advance to avoid disappointment!

Thrill seekers will love a day out at adventure parks such as Robin Hill, Blackgang Chine and Tapnell Farm each packed with fun for everyone. For a more relaxed pace, enjoy a stroll around Newton National Nature Reserve, known for its natural beauty and an excellent spot for bird watching. History lovers will not want to miss a trip to Osborne House, once the summer residence of Queen Victoria and Price Albert. Here you can glimpse into their private world, wander through the stunning gardens and even visit the private beach where the royal children once played.
