Original beams, staircases and other remnants of its past life lend atmosphere to areas which today are designed for spending quality time with friends and family. A place where you can absorb the grace of the Cathedral and its intriguing history along with the cinematic wonder of Hogwarts.
This generous home, with space for larger groups, is set over three floors with short staircases between each level. The entrance hall welcomes you and guides you to the spacious kitchen, which is well-equipped and perfect for social gatherings. Up a few steps and you will come to the formal dining-room with its large dining-table that cries out for a celebratory feast, impressive windows overlook the courtyard and the Dean's house opposite the property. Head to the generous sitting-room with its comfy sofa and Smart TV, where sunlight streams in through the Georgian sash window. The four bedrooms are all beautifully decorated with gorgeous beds, crisp linen and original features. The top floor twin bedroom connects to the double bedroom on this floor, so would be best used as a family room. All through the house beautiful antique furniture, carefully sourced by the interior designer to complement the grandeur of this historic house, graces each room. A useful cloakroom and two bath/shower rooms complete the accommodation, one with a shower and one with a bath with shower over, offering total flexibility for guests. Outdoors is a small, but pretty, walled garden located to the side of the property. A place to sit, take a step back and absorb the words of Albus Dumbledore 'let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure; Isn't that what a holiday is all about!
Located right within the Cathedral grounds you are well placed to discover the tumultuous past of Gloucester Cathedral. It began as a 7th Century religious house, founded in 679AD and was transformed into a Cathedral in 1541 after Henry VIII and his dissolution of the monasteries, and houses the tomb of King Edward II. Today it is famous for Harry Potter, walk the magnificent fan-vaulted cloisters and look out for the filming locations of the famous films based on the books of JK Rowling. The Chapter House is rumoured to be where William the Conqueror commissioned the Doomsday Book. Just outside the Cathedral gates is The House of the Tailor of Gloucester; the original building from Beatrix Potter's famous story and is now a museum and shop. Gloucester Docks and Quay are a beautifully restored Victorian Dockyard, only a 15-minute walk from the Cathedral. It has waterside dining and a designer outlet for some retail therapy.
The Cotswolds National Landscape is as pretty as a picture with rolling hills dotted with exquisite villages filled to the brim with honey-coloured stone houses, often topped with a bonnet of thatch. If you want a more dramatic location, head to the Wye Valley, a place where the more energetic can walk, enjoy water sports, and experience gravel and mountain biking aplenty. The Forest of Dean is the place to go for peace and tranquility in the woodlands with their dappled sunlight filled trails. Cheltenham is full of regency splendour where culture, history and modern-day activities blend. In May, Cheltenham racecourse hosts the Gold Cup, and the famous literary festival is also a popular annual event held in Cheltenham itself. Browse amongst the many antiques shops and dine in artisan cafes and restaurants in Tetbury and Stroud, and a visit to King Charles Garden at Highgrove is a must for garden lovers. The villages of Burford and Stow-on-the-Wold are typically picturesque and filled with independent shops.
