Driftwood Lodge is a retreat full of luxury. With gorgeous views over the River Dart Estuary, wonderful, airy rooms with high ceilings and a superb outside space this really is a tremendous place to call home as you explore the beautiful South Hams countryside.
As you enter the house, a beautiful open plan living area greets you with its indulgent wood-burning stove for those winter months and a fantastic Smart TV. The magnificent main window stretches all the way to the roof allowing for great views over the river from the comfort of one of the inviting sofas. Settle down with an early morning coffee on the fabulous balcony area and keep your eyes out for heron, swans, egrets and, if you're lucky, even the occasional seal. The beautifully crafted wooden dining-table is great for enjoying hearty suppers on after busy days exploring and its capacity to extend out means there plenty of room for your friends and family. At the rear of the space sits the crisp, modern kitchen with its gorgeous granite worktops, wonderfully finished sink and excellent oven.
Explore the ground floor further and you will find two brilliantly inviting bedrooms. You won't want to leave bedroom one with its lavish king-size bed, TV and en suite shower-room. Enter bedroom two and enjoy its wonderfully light and airy feel thanks to its fabulous high ceilings and gorgeous pastel tones. For those who don't have access to an en suite, retreat to the luxuriously decorated bathroom with its exposed stone and magnificent free-standing bathtub.
Venture downstairs to the lower ground floor and enter the delightful second living-room which, again, has its own Smart TV as well as a fantastic wine cooler for those special nights in. On this floor you will also find a handy utility-room and another cosy bedroom meaning there is plenty of space for your friends and family to sleep in comfort.
Outside, the excellent garden area offers plenty of places to relax and listen to the river just beyond the fence. The compact barbecue and patio dining-area make al fresco dining a dream while the inviting fire-pit and cushioned bench are both great places to unwind after a busy day. Beyond the fenced garden there is plenty of space to enjoy by the water's edge as well as some handy benches.
Stoke Gabriel is a pretty historic village where the cottages tumble down the hill to the picturesque River Dart Estuary. The centre of the village is only a two minute walk from the house and has a couple of pubs, Emma's Restaurant, an art gallery, a Post Office and a general store. The Rivershack Brasserie sits on the foreshore some 200 yards from the Driftwood Lodge. The Sharpham Winery at Sandbridge Barton is only a 20 minute woodland walk away, with wine and cheese tastings and vineyard tours together with its own on site restaurant.
The mornings are a wildlife lover's dream with heron, swans, egrets and ducks on the lake and if you're lucky even the occasional seal. Riverside activities abound with beautiful riverside walks, kayak and paddleboard hire on the slipway and crabbing on the quayside for the younger family members.
Other local attractions include Agatha Christie's house Greenway and D'Oyly Carte's Coleton Fishacre house within a short drive. Bohemian Totnes is only five minutes away with its array of quirky shops and art galleries or take an idyllic river trip to bustling Dartmouth, which can also be accessed by steam train.
The sandy beaches of Goodrington, Broadsands and Torquay are on your doorstep as well as the zoo at Paignton and Brixham with its famous fish market and boat trips along the English Riviera.
