Zip and linkRecently renovated, The Coach House is something very special. It is in another world, hidden away from it all and surrounded by beautiful tranquil gardens, yet just one mile from the east Devon market town of Axminster and just a 15 minute drive to the World Heritage Jurassic Coast.
The quality here is truly exceptional and there is a sense of calm the moment you arrive and step into the wide hallway. The sitting/dining-room has a wood-burning stove and French windows onto a large terrace with views through the trees down the valley. A separate kitchen is fitted and equipped as a real home-from-home. There are two excellent bedrooms, one with a king-sized double bed and en suite bathroom with fitted rainfall and hand held showers, the second with a super-king sized bed which can be set up as twin beds if guests wish and an en suite with a large walk-in rainfall shower.
The private lane leading across the Axe Valley sets the scene. There is a beautiful river bridge with painted white railings, cattle grazing in the meadow and nesting swans in the spring. Rising up into the wooded hillside your own driveway takes you to the generous parking-area for The Coach House which is tucked behind Cloakham House where the owners live. The Coach House is single-storey with two steps down from the parking and one step up to the front door into the hallway.
The sense of peace throughout is wonderful, with gently colour-washed floorboards in the kitchen, hall and living area – which has stylish white plantation shutters – pretty blinds in the carpeted bedrooms, and a perfect balance of new and antique furniture.
As well as the terrace, with beautiful planting along its boundary and which will be a firm favourite place to dine al fresco, there is a further garden for your sole enjoyment. This is just the other side of your parking-area and consists of lovely shaded areas of lawn, steps and gravelled paths to the different levels. It is a gardener's paradise. There is a large table and chairs on the patio, and a picnic table and bench on the lawn.
