Bertie's Cottage had many positive attributes, however our stay was negatively impacted by a broken mattress in the main bedroom and an overly complicated heating system that was inadequate for the cold weather. Classic Cottages was was very helpful and sympathetic in their response to our complaints but we would not have booked this particular cottage had we know about the issues ahead of time. Otherwise, the location of Bertie's on the Polruan harbour is lovely. The cottage was well-equipped and the living spaces were spacious and comfortable. ...

Lovely location and views but cottage in need of some maintenance. Also it would have been helpful to have known that the Lugger Inn which is mentioned as being in walking distance from the cottage was effectively closed.

We're delighted you loved the location of the cottage in the heart of the fishing village by the Quay with the ever-changing view you can watch from the comfort of the sitting room. We are sorry you found maintenance concerns and the nearby pub wasn't open. The owners assured us they have in process a list with issues that have recently been addressed including new furnishings, decorating and any ongoing repairs. All holiday cottages have a constant need for upkeep, and should anything need attention during your stay we would love to assist. The Lugger was contacted, and they replied to say 'We are open daily from 12pm until 11pm apart from Sunday evenings where we close in term time. We serve food daily from 12-2pm and 6-9pm.' Location, location, location! Right on the harbour front. We lucked out and had an amazing festival outside the house for the first couple of days. The big window at the front is lovely to sit on with a brew and take it all in. Dont be put off by no garden, the harbour is on your doorstep. You can time the ferry to Fowey by looking out of the window! Great village shop, nice pubs. House is bigger than it looks on the photos. Great for the dog - we had the weather as well. Get used to hills. Parking and dropping off is typical Cornwall so just take it in your stride. Lovely walk to Fowey as well involving two ferries, you dont get that in Cheshire! Recommended. Family of 4 and spaniel....
