Barrington Court, a Tudor manor owned by the National Trust, is a short drive away.
Montacute House, another National Trust property, is also worth a visit.
Why not hop on the West Somerset Steam Railway that leaves from Bishops Lydeard?
Lyme Regis is a vibrant seaside town with some great choices when it comes to dining and can be reached in under 40 minutes by car.

We stayed in The Whistle and let me say it was the most beautiful, idyllic Shepards hut we could have stayed in. Everything was beyond our expectations, no detail missed. We came for a relaxing; cosy weekend away before the festivities and we wouldn’t have changed a thing about it. It truly was an unforgettable stay. We will be back again! No doubt about that. Our stay at The Whistle was perfect, literally everything was well thought out. Location was great, and the Hut itself was brilliant. Hot Tub was lit and ready to use on arrival, the complimentary bottles of cider were cooling in the fridge.. and the milk and cookies came in handy for a late night snack too, what's not to like? The wood store was brimmed with all the requirements for the hot tub, pizza oven, BBQ and indoor log burner. The indoor furnishings were spotlessly clean, comfortable and cosy, the complimentary shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand soaps were a nice touch too. Cannot fault it in any way, and we will definitely return next year....

Secure, relaxing, peaceful, cozy and quiet. A plentiful supply of logs for the hot tub, pizza oven and wood burner. The TV was a nice touch, as was the supply of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Local cider, fresh milk and cookies upon arrival. Pizza dough and a BBQ pack can be provided on arrival if requested. Also the hot tub can be prepared for your arrival should you so wish. All in all, a lovely place that I would thoroughly recommend....
