Mrs Austen October 2023
Wonderful house for a family get together Very well equipped for a large group. Spacious and clean Central location made for a relaxing holiday for a variety of age groups This is the best house we have ever rented for the whole family
Ms Black September 2023
This is their second time that our walking group have stayed in Hillside House and we love the accommodation. Everything is as described, it's spotlessly clean and the new kitchen is extremely well equipped with quality appliances, crockery etc. The location in the centre of the village is just perfect and the convenience store a few doors away seems to stock everything you could ever want. The new ice cream parlour next door (Scatho's) is a very welcome addition to the village. If we return to South Cornwall, Hillside House would definitely still be our first choice.
Mr Creed July 2023
Hillside has every thing!
Mrs Brooking July 2023
Another wonderful holiday at this amazing gem of a house. It is a haven for both young and old and we love it!
Mrs Odlum April 2023
The house was a wonderful base for a gathering of several families to attend a wedding. Just the right spot and couldn't be easier to have the pub 'The Plume of Feathers' just opposite for some overflow; and also the supermarket just up the street. Very comfortable with everything one could need.
Mr Jones November 2022
This is a beautiful property with plenty of room for a large family gathering. Very well situated and equipped. Everyone loved the house and Portscatho. Hope to return.
Mrs Bishop September 2022
We had a multi generational family and friends stay at Hillside House. It's a beautiful house, extremely spacious, with a few reception rooms which is great with so many people. The house is well equipped, when I looked for a lime squeezer for those essential margaritas I found two! The location so close to the beach was great so not too far to run home after a morning dip. I really recommend this house.
Mrs Norris September 2022
This is the second time that we have stayed at Hill House. We cannot fault the house for the way it is furnished or set up. It is as good as it is displayed on the website.
The kitchen is fantastic and great for entertaining. We loved the fact that there are three fridges, one of which has to be a drinks fridge, plus three freezers
Although the butcher's has now closed but still supply via the local Co-Op which sells fruit & veg, bread and other consumables plus the papers.
The Plume of Feathers PH is excellent and would recommend pre-booking ahead as the restaurant books up easily. The Boat House Bistro is excellent for food too as an alternative.
We discovered this visit that Cornwall bus runs from the top road, service 50, going between St Mawes and then caught the ferry to Falmouth.
Coastal walks are a mere 5 minutes from the house and take you to Porth Curnick or Porth Towan with breath taking views either way. There is a National Trust cafe at Porth Towan.
Highly recommend for a large parties of friends or family.
Mrs Hutchings July 2022
Hillside House is perfect for families and friends. Ideally located to the beach with pub opposite and well stocked village shop. We had a very happy holiday there.
Mrs Brooking July 2022
A perfect house for a large family gathering. The location is great with easy access to the beaches and local shops. We had such fun here.
Ms Bearne April 2022
We visited Hillside House in May 2022, as a group of friends. We loved the cottage, the position and the village which had just enough facilities to be helpful, but not enough that it was 'commercial'. Highly recommended.
Mrs Keeley February 2022
We loved our stay in Hillside House, the location is great and the house well furnished and equipped with everything you need for a large group.
Mrs Middleton October 2021
Comfortable airy house in beautiful Portscatho, plenty of space to be together or apart, relaxing. Excellent shop and butcher and delicious evenings in the Plume of Feathers, happy and welcoming staff. No need to leave the village except for great walks in either direction. We have booked again for next year, thank you.
Mrs Cairns July 2021
A super place for families. The beach being so near makes it an ideal place to stay Good access to other places should one wish to go further afield Excellent for walking the coastal path
Mrs Ayliffe July 2021
A wonderful place to stay in the village with so many facilities and beautiful beaches within easy reach.
Mrs Taylor October 2020
Perfect location and very comfortable house for small or large parties . Very near to the sea and cliff path walks. Local shop, butchers and pub all very good and although we took much of our provisions with us the local fresh produce and especially the butchers sausages were fab to have on hand. WiFi downstairs was good but with such thick walls was more patchy upstairs. All in all I would say you will not be disappointed with the house or location and we would book again.

We're so pleased that you enjoyed your time in this gorgeous spot - and great to see that you made use of the local shops and facilities in the village. Wifi is normally very good throughout the house thanks to a signal booster - unfortunately it appears that the booster had been inadvertently switched off, so the signal upstairs wasn't quite so strong as usual during your stay. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon. Tanya, Customer Support
Mr Creed July 2020

Spacious, quiet , well equipped house, perfect for a large group. Very comfortable beds , easy access to beach and well equipped shop in pretty village.
Miss Hanlon June 2018
Excellent house in a stunning little location. Well equipped and very close to local amenities. It’s a quiet location, perfect for trips out.
Mrs Tate May 2018
Beautiful house with plenty of room for large families. Separate lounges so that you can relax on occasions. I was worried about the stairs having mobility problems but was relived to find that the stairs where not straight up but had landing areas. The beach was near and the children really enjoyed being able to just walk down the road. A very handy grocery store, well stocked and fantastic butcher and delicious pasty. The family enjoyed a boat trip from St Mawes to Falmouth in all a wonderful holiday had by the whole family.
Mrs Du Sautoy March 2018
Our family group from 4-72 thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Hillside House. The general relaxed layout of the house and many bathrooms were much appreciated. It was cosy inside when raining with plenty of space for us, and grandchildren enjoyed trying out stack of games! Thank you.
Miss Black March 2018
This is an excellent house for large groups in a fantastic location. The convenience store two doors away sells everything that you could need and we enjoyed a very good meal in the pub opposite. Having booked four excellent large houses through Classic Cottages, Hillside House exceeded our expectations and we would love to return.
Mrs Pinheiro December 2017
Absolutely loved the house and Portscatho. House was perfect for family gathering , had everything you need and furnished beautifully. Was warm and comfortable . Location was perfect. Centre of village across the road from pub which was lovely, one minute from the beaches, footpaths. The village is extremely friendly and very pretty especially at night with Xmas decorations. The housekeeper was excellent. Got back to me promptly and dealt with everything really quickly. We would love to book this place again.
Mrs Nye September 2017
Great location, good size. Really nice to have your own private bathrooms. Close to a pub that serves very good food and the local shop selling everything. Very friendly village.
Mr Reynolds August 2017
We absolutely love the house, the position, and the whole set up and will be booking again for 2018. The proximity to the village, the town and Porthcurnick beaches is ideal for children. The butcher is brilliant. Super pasties and his sausages and hogs pudding are very special. The balcony at the Club has added another element to an excellent watering hole and the management at the Plume of Feathers have restored the pub to what one remembers from 50 years ago! Excellent food and beer. Portscatho is a lovely place for a holiday for people of all ages.
Ms Kelly July 2017
Excellently located in a picturesque village close to 2 magnificent beaches & a very good local pub with great food
Mrs Sibley May 2017
Fantastic spacious house with the luxury of all rooms being en suite. Perfect location as able to walk onto beach and next to a great butcher and store that stocks most things you need. Highly recommended for large groups of friends/families sharing.
Mrs Gravestock April 2017
Great accommodation and located in the centre of the village close to all amenities and not far from the 'sea views' (best view we found was on the rear terrace of the Harbour Club which is only c75m from the property) .... sadly, much maintenance work was required in the rear courtyard !
Reply from Classic Cottages
It's great to hear that you liked the house and its location in the village. Thanks for your feedback about the courtyard - woodwork can take a battering over winter in seaside spots such as this, but now the weather's better we'll have a chat with the Owner about some painting and weeding. Mrs Seddon April 2017
This house was perfectly located in such a charming village, very close to stunning beaches and the coast path. Our party ranged from 72 to 6 years of age and we all loved every minute. The house offers comfort and modern comforts, with loads of character. We will be booking it again!
Mr Day September 2016
Great Location.
Mr Watters September 2016
This was our second visit to Hillside House and it did not disappoint. Well equipped and with plenty of space for us, sons & wives and grandchildren. Lovely to have children's toys, books & videos available. Superb location with parking spaces a real bonus. Butcher next door, pub opposite, shop just above and Tatums coffee shop just a few paces downhill. Just add cornish sunshine and enjoy!
Ms Kelly July 2016
Perfect place to stay in a perfect location
Mr Marshall March 2016
Great house and location
Mr Howe February 2016
Perfect holiday house for our family group and suited all ages. Lots of space to all be together or apart. The garden was a sun trap even in February. The parking is a real bonus in Portscatho and the central location meant we had everything we needed close by. We would definitely go back. Loved it.
