Dr Ader May 2025

The property and its setting in the beautiful gardens are stunning - it is a very special, historic and spiritual place. We loved walking and sitting in the garden and exploring the wildflower meadows and newly planted woodland areas. The place is very peaceful and has a lovely energy. The cake that welcomed us on our arrival was lovely. Julie, the house sitter in the main house, was lovely and friendly, and so too was her dog Georgie. The location of the place is stunning, couldn't better it. Tucked away in a beautiful, secret Devon valley, fairly close to a main road, but on a very quiet back road on which we never met another car. We did several lovely walks on public footpaths and back lanes from the property. The lovely town of Kingsbridge with all its amenities is just 5 minutes away, but you wouldn't know it. The nearby farmshop and cafe and the garden centre and cafe were a wonderful bonus, and it was lovely buying fresh food from the farm shop every day for our tea. We recommend the fresh ham! Inside the property we really liked the airy, upstairs open plan sitting area, which we often used in preference to the darker downstairs sitting room. The location is convenient for both the coast and South Dartmoor, both of which we explored. Overall, a wonderful experience. ...

A beautiful historical place in stunning grounds. Extremely quiet & peaceful but easy access to the many surrounding coastlines & countryside.

The barn and the extensive grounds are so good that I am reluctant to leave a good review in case we can never get back in ! but yes its great, in a great location but never far from the best places

Leigh Barn is in an excellent location, within reasonable travel distance of both the coast (Salcombe, Dartmouth) and Dartmoor. It's down very narrow country lanes, so be prepared to meet a tractor on the way! The garden and grounds are a big bonus, especially on a summer's evening. But despite all this, we were disappointed to find on arrival that the lounge downstairs is quite gloomy with only limited natural light. This lack of light continued into both bathrooms where there is no light over the mirrors, making shaving and/or the application of make-up very difficult. The first floor bedroom is very attractively furnished but guests should be told that it sits immediately above the lounge and that there is no door between the two - it's not a room in the true sense of the word. The ground floor bedroom is less attractive and more suited to children that adults. Both bedrooms have skylights without blinds, so may cause an early awakening when it's bright outside. The kitchen is rustic rather than modern and lacks storage space for guests' food (other than the fridge/freezer). There is plenty of crockery, glasses, cutlery and consumables, but the kitchen knives needed replacing. The microwave sits on top of the fridge/freezer so not practical for shorter people. We were lucky that the weather was kind during our stay, but we'll be looking for somewhere else next time. ...
