Sat on a gentle hillside, this pretty flint cottage with a glorious outdoor seasonal swimming pool and stunning gardens is perfect for those looking for peace and tranquility. Nestled in the glorious Blackdown Hills National Landscape, this characterful and cosy cottage and all its welcoming features offers the ideal rural retreat for two.

Lazy days spent enjoying a cooling dip in the unheated pool, relaxing with a good book or sinking back into the sun-loungers on a sunny day is a real treat. Your location couldn't be more picturesque, the gardens which surround the cottage burst with colour and scent and are manicured to perfection with each season bringing new treats. When it comes to grounds and space, Shillings Cottage is set within the most glorious lawns, complemented by a thriving orchard and a neighbouring meadow. Countryside views and an abundance of wildlife can be enjoyed from your very own doorstep.

The pool and gardens are shared with the owner and a gardening team work on site to ensure the extensive gardens are maintained throughout the year. This means that you may see the team maintaining the landscaped area and borders around the pool during your stay. The pool is also checked and cleaned at the start of each day. With due consideration to her guests, the flexible owner is happy to agree sessions where you will have exclusive use of the pool and peace and privacy within the surrounding garden so that you have the opportunity to swim and enjoy the space to yourselves. Please speak to the owner during your stay to arrange this.

On entering the cottage, you will be greeted by a compact, yet fully equipped, kitchen and dining-area. The snug, yet fully functional shower-room can also be found on the ground floor. Heading upstairs for the evening you will be treated to a king-size bed, and a sitting-area should you wish to watch a spot of TV before enjoying a restful night's sleep. Come morning, stepping out of the bedroom onto your balcony to enjoy your coffee, whilst soaking up the sun is most certainly the best way to start the day.

This tranquil holiday cottage is hidden at the end of a secluded drive with off-road parking. Set within six acres, and a field away from a country lane, peace and quiet is guaranteed. The only other cottage within the grounds belongs to the owner, who is on hand to help make your holiday as special as possible.

This magical location boasts the most precious countryside setting. Lying within the folds of the beautiful Blackdown Hills which rise between the north and south coasts of Devon and near the border with Somerset. These hills are criss-crossed with a network of quiet public footpaths and are a designated National Landscape.

This stunning area really is a walker's paradise, especially as you can bring your four-legged friend along to enjoy in the adventures.

Exploring the near by area is a must. Heading into the village of Hemyock you will find a convenient village shop, post office, and that all important Devonshire pub. The Catherine Wheel Pub is a great venue to treat chef to a night off from cooking, especially as they offer a traditional and hearty menu.

For a touch of local sight-seeing, Hemyock Castle is also located in the village.

Slightly further afield you are treated to the thriving market town of Honiton. Try the award-winning Railway Inn for a totally delicious lunch and then browse through the antiques' shops for which Honiton is so well known. Market day is fun here too - with plenty of stalls to investigate.

The pebble beach of Regency Sidmouth is a picturesque car journey away with lots of sand at low tide - a 'step back in time' seaside town with something for everyone. Budleigh Salterton is another classic seaside town with one of the best fish and chip shops in the area! Sit on the beach to enjoy them as you watch the waves lap against the shore - bliss!

After a full day of exploration and adventure, returning to Shillings Cottage to enjoy a glass of something tasty by the pool is the perfect way to end any day.
