The Rigging

We thoroughly enjoyed our weeks stay at The Rigging. We took heed of the directions advice in locating The Rigging and this was spot on. We appreciated the text from the housekeeper in saying the cottage was ready earlier than 4pm. On this particular occasion, it didn't make any difference to us, as we arrived after this time, but would have been useful if we had travelled earlier. It was clean and tidy. Awaiting us was 4 scones, strawberry jam, clotted cream and 1 pint of semi skimmed milk, which was very welcoming and delicious! The location is ideal for visiting the area. We went to Polperro, Lansallos (only 2 miles away), Looe, Fowey, and the National Trust Landhydrock House and Gardens. We walked from Polperro to Looe along the South Coast path and then caught the bus back (£6 for 2 of us). Also, walked to Palace Cove and Lantivet Cove and part of the way to Polruan along the coastal path. The bus stop is opposite the cottage and the buses turn around quite often near the cottage. My husband was concerned that the reversing noise would be a problem, but it wasn't an issue at all. Plenty of people watching, if you wished, and a very short walk back to the cottage when we used the bus! There is also a post box at the end of the driveway, which was ideal for us, as I had bought a Ruby Wedding Anniversary card to post whilst we were staying there (too early to post before we left home). We noticed in the guests book that some had previously mentioned there was no microwave. The owners obviously took note and this has now been provided and we actually used it during our stay. It is a shame the owners have not heeded the many comments written by previous guests about the shower being lukewarm. We also found the same - it is barely warm, so were disappointed at this. Places we ate at during our stay were:- OXOX Noughts & Crosses in Polperro - a little pricey, but worth it for the quality of food and the ambience, 50 in Looe, again a little pricey, but the food was very good, Smugglers Cott in Looe - good food and friendly staff, Coddy Shack, just outside Looe - a very good choice of fish and chips and the Golden Guinea pub - basic food. Would have awarded 5 stars, but downgraded due to the shower being lukewarm and not resolved by the owners. ...

Wonderfull week at the Rigging. Delightful cottage, super comfy, clean and very well equipped. The real star of this cottage was the location and the parking outside. Such a bonus in Polperro. Location is great with a lovely traditional pub over the road. And opposite a bus stop for exploring nearby towns without taking the car. Or walk the coastal path and take the bus home. The walk into Polperro takes around 15 mins and is a lovely (mainly flat) meander down into the village. Polperro is a super Traditional fishing village. Larger than we expected with a superb range of pubs, restaurants and cafes. But lovely to see not overly commercialised and still mainly independent shops and eateries. The locals we met were all so welcoming and friendly. We spent a great few hours in the Polperro museum and highly recommend taking the time to read and understand its rich history. A great cottage for exploring this part of Cornwall, Fowey, Looe, Eden Project, Lostwithiel & the Lost Gardens of Heligan. We were blessed with glorious weather but imagine wonderfull breaks here anytime of year. We hear New Year in Polperro is quite the event? Will definitely be returning....

Sweet cottage a short walk down to Polperro village which is a delightful location for a holiday. The cottage itself was beautifully clean on arrival and well equipped but the kitchen cupboards smelt strongly of damp. Although it sleeps 6 the downstairs accommodation is not spacious and better suits 4. The low ceilings and doorways did cause a problem for the taller people in our party with a couple of nasty bumps! Quite a bit of road noise from the bus stop opposite which is in constant use with buses queuing at times, making it tricky to turn in and out of the drive. There was never any hot water in the en-suite shower (noted by many in the visitor’s book) and the drains are blocked, so the shower tray doesn’t drain and overflows. The loo blocked in the main bathroom too and although Classic Cottages got someone out straight away, the problem returned on the last day. Overall a bit disappointing. ...

Great location and parking The very low ceilings and front door meant a number of blows to the head. Be careful if tall. Handy for pub across the road.

We have always loved staying at The Rigging and have many wonderful family holiday memories.The location and bonus of on site parking makes it ideal.Also the Classic holiday team were so friendly helpful and very professional from start to finish so a very big thank you to you all and especially to Julie....
