Zip and linkFrom the moment you turn off the road and onto the drive to Knouchley Cottage you will know you are arriving at your perfect holiday retreat. Sublimely positioned amidst the hills of the Peak District National Park, with peace and tranquility aplenty, and gorgeous cosy interiors this charming Grade II Listed worker's cottage is your wonderful rural hideaway.
Located in the grounds of the owners' farm the cottage has been sympathetically refurbished to the highest standards, incorporating many original features married with contemporary designed modern kitchen and bath/shower rooms. With flagged flooring and under-floor heating on the ground floor it is easy to slip into holiday mode. Snuggle up on the sofas in the sitting-room and settle down to catch up on your favourite box set or just gaze out of the patio doors at the majestic hills beyond. When the seasonality calls for it, relax in the chairs by the wood-burner in the dining-room, a great place to lose yourself in a good book. The stairs lead up to the two luxurious bedrooms, both with super-king 'zip and link' beds, offering flexible sleeping, each has deep window seats and views over the countryside. On this floor you will also find the en suite bathroom and a family shower-room.
Relax outside on the patio and enjoy some al fresco dining. Take the opportunity to fire up the barbecue, perhaps with local produce from the nearby Chatsworth Estate, taking in the fresh country air and enjoying the evening sky but whether night or day, winter or summer, Knouchley Cottage is the ideal getaway.
From the cottage doorstep you can join one of many walks, whether you are looking for a short gentle stroll along the River Derwent, or taking on the heights of the magnificent Curbar and Froggatt Edge there are so many routes to choose from and plenty of tearooms and pubs to test out along the roway.
For history buffs you are a short walk from the plague village of Eyam, which also has some fantastic cafes. While for the less active why not take a short drive to Chatsworth House stopping off at the farm shop on the way back to stock up on tasty delicacies. Also, a mere six miles away, you can spend time in the lovely market town of Bakewell, not forgetting to try some of the scrumptious, famous Bakewell Tart.
Slightly further afield is the spa town of Buxton, another great shopping expedition. Or for something different why not take a look at the David Mellor Cutlery Museum just outside Hathersage. The array of beautiful kitchenware will surprise you. Or if you are feeling brave Hathersage has a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, and slightly further afield you can take in both Peak Covern and Blue John Covern. One thing is for certain you will never be lost for something to do or tire from the next wonderful view around the corner when you stay at Knouchley Cottage.
