TwinIn the picturesque Yorkshire Moors village of Glaisdale, close to the beautiful east coast, Hillrise is a delightful cottage to while away your holiday in.
You will be charmed by the beautiful interiors that lie behind the stone facade of this traditional terraced cottage. The rustic pine floor, beamed ceilings and sash windows, which let the light flood in, make this the quintessential Yorkshire cottage holiday in the National Park where the owners have created a blissful sanctuary and a perfect retreat for families and friends alike. The perfect place to ease into a slower pace of life.
Hillrise welcomes you with the spacious entrance hall with plenty of room for muddy boots, coats and any outdoor gear you have gives the first indication of the space which is yours for the holiday. Choose between wood-burners, one in the sitting-room, with its window seat perfect for staring over the hills and taking in all that nature has to offer, and one in the dining-room, with patio doors to the rear courtyard where you can dine outdoors. The kitchen boasts everything you need to whip up a fantastic meal for family or friends.
When you are tired after a day exploring take the stairs up to the first floor with the main bedroom and where you are spoilt for choice with bath/shower rooms, a modern shower-room or the family bathroom with claw foot bath. Up the stairs again you can choose to use either the twin bedroom or the second double (please let us know when you book). And let's not forget the landing nook full of toys and books for the younger folk, or those young at heart. There's also a Nintendo Wii which is great for keeping everyone entertained.
Outside the property you can enjoy a meal in the rear courtyard, barbecue some steaks or go for some local veg! Or just relax on the bench at the front and stare across the fields of sheep, maybe spotting some deer early in the morning or hawks hunting for prey.
Built in the 1870s this cottage is fully of character and the ideal place to base yourself while exploring the fantastic countryside. Stroll along the winding country roads and immerse yourself in all the village has to offer, with its local pub, cute railway station, access to the Coast to Coast walk and of course not forgetting the sheep! For those more energetic there is a lockable bike store so take the opportunity to whizz up and down the hills or over the wide expanses of moorland.
Walk or cycle through the unspoilt moors feeling the wind on your face, blowing away the cobwebs, or visit some of the charming villages nearby. Lealholm, with the stream running through and stepping stones across, is only a couple of miles away and Grosmont, with coffee shops and restaurants, is only four miles away.
You only have to walk down the hill to catch the famous North Yorks Moors steam railway into Whitby or onto the market town of Pickering. Not forgetting you are only 15 minutes away from many award-winning beaches including Whitby, Sandsend and Runswick Bay.
Visit Whitby with its busy harbour and historic Abbey. Why not take the 199 steps from Church Lane and stop halfway on the bench to take in the view across the town. If you are looking for a city to visit don't miss out on York with is original walls you can walk around, the Minster and the wonderful medieval streets waiting for you to explore.
Wherever you choose to go you will be delighted to return to the cosy comfort of Hillrise.
