DoubleSet in the heart of the pretty village of Marhamchurch, only three miles from the golden sands and thundering surf at Widemouth Bay and Bude, this 17th Century cottage is the most unique and cosy of holiday retreats. Oozing charm and character by the bucketful with exposed beams, original fireplaces, cloam oven, steep stairs, low doorways and curved walls – well what do you expect it is built on a corner! – it has been lovingly renovated and beautifully presented, carefully blending the traditional character with all the modern day comforts you would expect from a cottage at the heart of village life.
Decorated throughout in soft muted Farrow and Ball shades, the Shaker-style kitchen sits at the back of this semi-detached cottage making it easy to serve up holiday meals in the sunny little courtyard or in the comfy sitting/dining-room next door. For those who want some quiet space, there's also a little snug, ideal for catching up on some holiday reading. A secret staircase from the snug leads up to the double bedroom, a lovely room with a high vaulted ceiling and pretty bedstead; while the other bedroom is a gorgeous room with a super comfy king-size bed adorned with locally-made linen cushions and is reached from the staircase in the dining-area. The anteroom to the bedroom also has a pretty day bed, which can be made up as single bed if you require more flexible sleeping arrangements (please take care with the steep and uneven staircases). The shower-rooms are both located on the ground floor making it easy to rinse off after a day on the beach.
The village has a community shop, ideal for stocking up on everyday provisions, but if you don't want to cook, the village pub is right opposite the cottage and on Friday evening a fish and chip van calls by! For more dining, The Weir coffee house and bistro has a wonderful lakeside setting and the wildlife centre is sure to amuse younger members of the group.
The popular resort of Bude offers fun-filled days with great beaches, surfing, trails along the canal, shopping, tennis, golf and fabulous ice cream! The South West Coast Path will provide great walking adventures for you and your four-legged friends, and at Tamar Lakes there are more trails to discover along with sailing, paddle boarding and kayaking. The pretty fishing villages of Boscastle and Clovelly are also close by.
