Prince of Wales Pub (¼ mile)

Located directly opposite Osborne House, this pub was once used by the Osborne estate to accommodate staff of Royal visitors as well as stabling their horses. These days the pub offers ample parking, outside terrace seating, pool, darts and a wide ranging menu.

Nearest beach

East Cowes Beach (1 ¼ miles)

A shingle and sand beach which runs the length of the Esplanade. Further away from the town you will find a playground and paddling pool with a row of beach huts. Car parking is available neaby either on the roadside or car park. At high tide the beach disappears so check the tide times before you go. Dogs are not allowed from May to September. There is no lifeguard cover.

Cascading Canopies Histree Trail (1 mile)

Budding botanists and devoted dendrologists rejoice, for this is a beautiful trail under 2 miles long, featuring some special species of trees as you walk around Cowes. have a full description and printable download.

Whippingham (¾ mile)

Just inland of the north coast, there's a church designed by Prince Albert and many historic connections to the Royal family. Sit riverside on balmy afternoons in the peace and quiet this off-the-beaten-track village affords.

A large area of woodland maintained by the Forestry Commission. There's miles of woodland walks suitable for both walkers and mountain bikers. The red squirrel hide is a great place to spot wildlife from.

Beautiful place to walk the dog and the kids!

Gurnard (2 ¼ miles)

A hidden gem, west of well-known Cowes, think beautiful beach huts lining the shores, picnic greens and happy families. This is a great place to bring the little ones. Only a half hour walk from Cowes makes it well located for bigger days out, but you should find all you need here, with the sailing club keeping everyone entertained and the plethera of eateries keeping everyone full.

Gurnard is such a pretty place. The children loved skimming stones on the beach here, then a long play in the lovely park (which is enclosed) and then we finished off with a hot chocolate and a slice of cake at the Watersedge Beach Cafe. Perfect!

The Lifeboat (½ mile)

Overlooking East Cowes Marina, this pub has a large decked area for outdoor dining in summer and comfortable leather sofas and armchairs for cozy winters. The menu is extensive with daily specials and a kids menu is available. There's even a water taxi to take you across the river.

The Terrace (½ mile)

A visit to Osborne House would not be complete without calling in here. Serving lunch or high tea, the seasonal menu is created using local produce including Ventnor crab and four types of Victoria sponge.

Osborne House (½ mile)

If you only visit one place on the Isle of Wight then make it here, the holiday home of Queen Victoria. See private apartments, the bathing beach, childrens play cottage and garden terraces. You'll need from 2 - 3 hours and there's also a restaurant and cafe for refreshments. Check opening times before you visit as it is not open every day during the winter.
