TwinThis gorgeous, dog friendly three bedroom cottage is deceptively spacious with wonderful open plan living spaces and beautiful cottage gardens making it ideal for gatherings, families and couples alike.
Enviably situated just five minutes from the rugged Somerset coast and on the fringes of Dartmoor National Park it not only provides a wonderful home-from-home but also the perfect base to adventure out from.
The cottage is best described as a fascinating fusion of old and new with truly exquisite interiors that will catch your eye the moment you enter. The open plan layout is perfect for socialising together in one space and features all the mod-cons you would expect from such a luxury property. The dining-area in particular, with its Crittal doors out to the terrace and light flooding in, is a real treat (there are steps down from the dining-area).
Off the kitchen you will find a very handy utility-room with washing machine/drier and supplementary kitchen goods and off this room a rather lovely shower-room and WC.
Back into the kitchen you will get a view through to the characterful sitting-room. This is a very welcoming space with lots of comfy seating, a wood-burner and a separate space for homeworking or just some quiet time with a book. Picture lots of cosy evenings and happy memories made in here.
Off the kitchen you head up the striking oak staircase to find a feature vaulted landing leading to the three large bedrooms (please note the wooden stairs are uncarpeted). To the right you will discover the impressive primary (king-size) bedroom which is wonderfully bright space with original beams and views out to the garden. The room is then complemented by a luxury en suite shower-room. Bedroom two is no less impressive with another king-size bed and a tangible sense of calm and quiet - expect some deep sleeps and lazy starts here. Bedroom three is laid out as two single beds so perfect for adults or children to share. You will also find some handy storage and a dressing-table which is enhanced by wonderful levels of light via its dual-aspect. Completing the upstairs is a grand family bathroom featuring a large shower enclosure and roll-top claw-footed bath, perfect for some long soaks after a day exploring the rugged north Somerset coast.
Outside there are wraparound gardens with areas of lawn and terraces which are just wonderful (the garden isn't enclosed). Full of colour and birdsong you will certainly find the time for some outdoor brunch and perhaps a few sundowners. There is also dedicated parking for up to two cars on the private parking-area (just around the back of the house so follow the road around). The immediate entrance to the driveway and parking has a short but steep start so please take care with low slung cars.
Babies under six months old are welcomed at Elm Cottage.
When you do tear yourself away from this lovely place you will find you are perfectly placed for many of Somerset's most attractive qualities. You can access Exmoor National Park on foot from Elm Cottage, simply turn right out of the cottage parking-area onto Park Lane and continue up the hill to the signpost and wooden gates on your right, here you will find a stunning view of Exmoor and Dunster Castle. You will truly feel as though you have escaped daily life, as you marvel at the unspoilt moorland and hidden valleys that dominate the landscape.
Nearby is Dunster, a very attractive medieval village with cobbled streets, an old packhorse bridge and ancient castle. Further into the National Park, there is an endless list of places to seek out - head to Dulverton where there are lots of independent shops, sweet tea rooms and cosy pubs. A short drive outside the town is Tarr Steps, a 17-span clapper bridge, that provides a perfect riverside picnic spot.
If this wasn't enough you are also only five minutes from the coast - so much to do and see.
