Step into a world of timeless elegance and sheer comfort in 12 Castle Street, where classic charm meets modern luxury and pure relaxation. Escape to this superbly renovated Victorian residence which sits on a quiet street, which as the name suggests, is very near the castle, in the pretty market town of Ruthin in north Wales, where half-timbered houses, Georgian facades and Victorian architecture, sit along the medieval streets, creating a unique atmosphere.

From the moment you arrive, the grand Victorian architecture, imposing turrets, high ceilings, the sense of space in every room and ornate fireplaces, decorative cornices, ceiling roses, heavy velvet curtains and beautifully preserved period details create a sense of a sophisticated escapism. Sunlight pours through the elegant windows throughout the house, illuminating tastefully styled rooms, and are framed with stunning refurbished shutters. Enter via the large entrance vestuble into the impressive hallway, where the imposing sweeping oak staircase rises to the exquisitely designed first floor, where the landing, typically of the era, is lined with attractive bookshelves.

On the ground floor, in the spacious sitting-room, sink into the plush sofas in the glow of the wood-burner on chillier evenings or enjoy long, leisurely meals in the elegant dining-room. If there's a pianist in the party enjoy a sing song around the piano. The stylish, well-equipped kitchen sits just off the dining-room where the chef will find all they need for some gourmet holiday cooking.

Each of the four opulent en suite bedrooms, one of which is located on the ground floor, are thoughtfully designed with luxurious linens and tasteful decor, offering a peaceful retreat after a day's exploring, there is also a sumptuous family bathroom where you can take a luxuriously long bubble bath before bed. The sun-room offers the ideal, peaceful escape with a good book, or to watch your favourite movie. From here step onto the balcony which looks across to Nantclwyd y Dre, one of the oldest timber framed house in Wales, it's the perfect setting for morning coffee, evening drinks or simply soaking up the cool evening air.

From the doorstep, stroll through the historic, pretty market town, steeped in history with medieval origins and a 13th Century castle, part of which is a hotel and spa. Admire the distinctive red brick buildings and scenic setting in the Vale of Clwyd beneath the Clwydian Range hills. Browse the shops in the heart of the town around St Peter's Square, visit 14th Century St Peter's church, Nantclwd y Dre, a preserved timber framed 15th Century merchant's house, one of the oldest in Wales and now a museum, or Ruthin's Victorian gaol may be of interest, which is now a museum, showing how prisoners lived in the 1800s. Treat yourself to a spa day in the nearby Castle Spa Hotel, part of the original castle. Ruthin combines historic charm with a quiet rural atmosphere. Narrow streets, independent shops and traditional pubs sit alongside centuries old buildings, surrounded by rolling green hills and farmland which adds to the peaceful character.

Explore the Clwydian Range, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with hiking trails, hill forts and panoramic views across Wales. Nearby are Denbigh and Chirk castles, the Llandegla Forest for mountain bike trails, walking routes and wild life spotting around the reservoir. The largest natural lake in Wales, Lake Bala, is worth a visit. You may like to kayak, sail, or paddleboard on the lake, take lunch in the cafe or ride the Bala Lake Railway, a narrow gauge heritage train that runs along the southern shore of the lake. If you fancy a beach day, the glorious beaches of north Wales are about twenty miles away, Rhyll or Prestatyn are the nearest.

Whenever you choose to stay, each season brings something special to the picturesque town and stunning surrounding area, offering castles, Welsh history and scenic countryside from the warming days of spring, long summer days ideal for exploring, the beauty of the golden autumn scenery, to crisp, frosty winter mornings, Christmas markets, and cosy country pubs. It's easy to see why this area is a popular holiday destination. The refined 19th Century grandeur, enchanting and timeless, 12 Castle Street offers the perfect base from which to explore.
