KingCradled within the peaceful village of Barbon bordering both North Yorkshire and Cumbria, sits Hill Top Cottage. Rustic charm radiates from every burning log, every communal meal and every exposed oak beam. In the latest reincarnation of this traditional stone-built home, the owners have created a cosy, welcoming vibe where you can unwind as soon as you step inside and experience a sweet slice of slow living. Heritage colours echo the landscape, an earthy palette of relaxing neutrals, and nods to the local area - truly embrace the mix of past and present.
The sitting-room is a perfect place to relish cosy hours snuggled around the wood-burner, indulging in guilt-free Netflix binges on TV; or curling up with a novel. Sit on the window seat and your gaze is drawn to the view of the fell. The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering escapes to which modern luxuries have been added, let your inner chef get creative.
Sleeping four people, across two king-size bedrooms, the first floor bedroom has its own dedicated bathroom with a fitted shower over the bath, whilst the second floor bedroom has an en suite shower-room (please take care on the step into the en suite). Both share either village or fell views, there's plenty of space for friends or families. Outdoors, it is as if time stands still with a village full of Cumbrian stone cottages and the fell rising up in the distance, be it calm and clement or wild and brooding, the cinematic views are beautiful.
Relax on the lawn bordered by mature hedges or sit awhile enjoying a leisurely meal as dusk cloaks the eve of the day. Hill Top Cottage is the perfect base for those seeking a laid-back yet indulgent retreat, savouring sunny days and starry, starry nights with your four-legged friend in tow.
Located in the Cumbrian village of Barbon, close to Kirkby Lonsdale, this stylish countryside cottage offers the perfect base for families and friends exploring the dramatic landscapes of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Barbon boasts a lovely local pub, the Barbon Arms, where muddy boots and dogs are welcome. Enjoy a hearty home-cooked meal and warm yourself by the original range fire. To work off those excess calories there are plenty of fabulous cycling routes which are ideal for keen outdoor explorers.
As the place where Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire meet, the nearby historic market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, overlooking the river Lune, offers a maze of cobbled streets boasting an array of individual shops. There are deli's selling artisan and local produce, stylish boutiques and cafes to explore. It has a 13th Century Market Charter with market day on Thursdays.
Photography enthusiasts should visit Ruskin's View offering breathtaking panoramas of the Lune Valley, it was praised by the artist J.M Turner. Ingleton Waterfall Trail is a five-mile trail with stunning waterfalls and woodland scenery. Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery has crafted beers and delicious sourdough pizzas. Kendal, the gateway to the Lakes can be reached within 15.5 miles. Your visit will not be complete without experiencing a peaceful cruise along the tranquil waters of Lake Windermere aboard a traditional steamer from Bowness-on-Windermere (25 miles).
Some lesser-known facts about Cumbria for your quiz night is that it is home to the largest natural lake in the country and boasts the nation's highest mountain.
