In the heart of Petrockstowe you will discover picture-perfect Churchgate Cottage. This beautiful, Listed cottage built in the mid-18th Century from cob offers character charm, original features and the perfect north Devon location! On your doorstep you have The Laurels Inn, the Tarka Trail, Gotland Gin distillery and Torview Wines. A little further afield there are numerous National Trust Estates, RHS Rosemoor, Dartmoor and the beautiful sandy beach at Widemouth Bay that always recharges the soul. When it comes to planning a day of adventure you will be spoilt for choice.
Step over the threshold of this semi-detached cottage and you will be greeted by stylishly decorated rooms, the sitting-room on your right has two comfy sofas, a Smart TV and that all-important log-burner for those chillier evenings. There is a wonderful dining-room with a large table and comfy chairs as well as an electric wood-burner. This room offers just the spot for a holiday banquet or a full English breakfast that can be rustled up in the fully equipped kitchen situated at the back of the house.
On the first floor you will find two uniquely furnished double bedrooms looking out towards the village, with views of the church from the landing thanks to a cleverly installed viewing window. When it comes to a good night's sleep both bedrooms have sumptuous king-size beds with beautiful linens, towels and slippers - the ideal combination allowing you to recharge each night ready for another day of discovering all that north Devon has to offer.
Churchgate Cottage offers a lovely laid-back holiday vibe in a village that will instantly make you feel at home. The outside courtyard area is partially covered creating an outside utility-area with a washing machine and tumble-drier. You will also discover a raised seating-area that is accessed via a stone staircase, please take care as this is uneven owing to the age of the cottage but once seated you can enjoy the view of the church and you may be lucky enough to hear the bells chime. The free parking in front of the cottage is on a first come first served basis but there is plenty of parking within yards of the cottage so parking should never be an issue.
Young babies aged under six months old are welcome at Churchgate Cottage.
If you can bear to tear yourselves away from the cottage, north Devon offers plenty of things to see and do. You can join the renowned Tarka Trail (a safe, traffic-free and relatively flat disused railway line that runs alongside the River Torridge) at nearby Great Torrington - if you fancy cycling, bikes can be hired at Torrington Cycle Hire. Alternatively bring your own bikes!
The wonderful market towns of Great Torrington and Holsworthy are well worth a visit, as is north Devon's largest town of Barnstaple. Of course, heading to the coast is a must and you will be spoilt for choice with lots of fantastic beaches to visit - Croyde, Clovelly, Sandymouth, Westward Ho!, Widemouth Bay and Crooklets to name a few - whether you want to try your hand at surfing or paddle boarding, have a bucket and spade day or join the South West Coast Path, there is something for everyone.
