Nestled amongst the idyllic hills of rural Devon, Four Chimneys is a cob built, period cottage brimming with character, which offers peace and tranquility along with action and adventure within striking distance. Just a stone's throw from Dartmoor, it is located in the picturesque village of Bratton Clovelly, home to the highly recommended Clovelly Inn, where a warm welcome, fine ales and good food awaits, a short walk away. The uphill climb is great for building up an appetite, though less able folk may appreciate a lift. Following a day of exploration and adventure, retreating to Four Chimneys is a real pleasure. Boasting two living-rooms with inglenook fireplaces, a well-equipped kitchen leads straight onto the stylish patio and wonderful garden full of wildlife and colour. Whether you are looking for a relaxing break in a cosy welcoming retreat or an action packed holiday of hiking, angling and watersports, this luxurious property in its truly magical surroundings is guaranteed to make holidaying in this delightful place a real treat for all generations. Dogs are welcome.
Discovering and exploring this area is a must. The stunning landscape of Dartmoor National Park is unmissable with its wild ponies roaming amongst the numerous tors, neolithic tombs and Bronze Age stone circles. Why not try the three mile pack horse trail from your doorstep? Or perhaps something a little more up tempo is to your liking? If so, Roadford Lake, just six miles away, offers an array of watersports and a climbing wall. The Atlantic surfing beaches of Bude and Widemouth, which boast fabulous family and dog-friendly sandy beaches, are only a short car journey away. Anglers are spoilt for choice! A few other attractions and places of interest nearby include the Granite Way cycle trail, Meldon reservoir, Okehampton Castle, the market towns of Tavistock and Launceston and National Trust Lydford Gorge, Lanhydrock, Buckland Abbey and Cotehele. However why leave the peace and tranquility of your beautiful back garden? The sun-trap patio, surrounded by terraced gardens and borders bustling with flowers and wildlife, is a real feature; the ideal spot to settle down with a good book and a glass of something tasty on a summer day or a cocktail or two at sundown. The fabulous gardens are lovingly designed incorporating the various slopes and changing landscape, making them a real feature on the eye and great to explore. However, please be careful with little ones or those less steady on their feet as the slopes can be quite steep in some parts. Whether it's a barbecue al fresco or whipping up a family feast in the spacious, well-equipped kitchen, there is an Aga at your disposal between the months of October to April (not in use in the warmer summer months). Feasting as kings, retiring to the cosy living-room and snuggling up in front of the glowing wood-burner for a film or board game sounds like the perfect way to end the day for the whole party. As this fantastic family home has been designed and furnished with your ultimate enjoyment in mind, should you have the need for extra 'occasional sleeping', we are happy to discuss the use of a 'z' bed to accommodate that extra guest. Four Chimneys is a beautiful property, set in the most picturesque and tranquil environment, a winning combination which guarantees the perfect rural retreat whatever the occasion.
