7 Nights from £495 - £1050

Butterfly Cottage is a gorgeous mid-terraced property just outside the village of Freshwater on the west coast of the island with stunning views to Tennyson Downs. The cottage has three lovely bedrooms, a triple bunk-room on the ground floor and a further twin and a double on the first floor. The good-sized modern family bathroom is also situated on the first floor. The living-room is a very comfortable and cosy space with a wood-burning stove ideal for an evening in with a bottle of wine. The galley kitchen is compact but has everything you need with the dining-room table overlooking the cottage garden and the stunning rolling countryside. There is a table and chairs outside on the lawn and a barbecue to dine al fresco and admire this idyllic setting. Moons Hill is a quiet country road, parking is available on the roadside in front of the cottage.

Tennyson Down is a grassy whale backed ridge of chalk named after Lord Tennyson who lived at nearby Farringford House for nearly 40 years. The ridge extends to the west for three miles where it ends at the Needles, a famous and wonderfully old fashioned family day out. The Tennyson Trail is on your doorstep and a wonderful scenic walk also making up part of the Isle of Wight Coastal path and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a ramblers delight. The Piano Cafe is a short walk away in Freshwater Bay, a charming cafe where they use the freshest of ingredients and local produce where possible for their fresh coffee, tea and home-made cakes. Live music is on offer at least once a week and there's a piano player most Sunday lunchtimes. Within walking distance is the High Down Inn, which does good country food with an open log fire. Freshwater Bay is one of the most picturesque beaches in West Wight, part sandy and pebbles. At low tide a rock ledge is revealed making it a great place for kids to go rock pooling and crabbing. Butterfly Cottage is in an ideal location for a wonderful family holiday on the island.
