Downalong's private hot tub is sheer luxury, day or night, and this spacious, light-filled single-storey cottage is stylishly furnished with contemporary and homely finishing touches. Set apart from the Owners' home, which once belonged to the Wheal Damsel mine captain, detached Downalong stands in an historic mining heritage area just outside Carharrack, surrounded by cycle trails and footpaths. The open plan living-room has a wood-burner, and patio doors lead to the sunny raised rear deck where you can enjoy the lovely countryside views whilst relaxing in the hot tub. Double doors also open onto the front patio and barbecue area, beyond which, within a fenced enclosure, is the outdoor swimming pool (variable depth). The pool is available between May and September and is used occasionally by the Owners but not when their guests are on site.
There are three bedrooms, one en suite, and a fabulous wet-room. The twin room has glazed doors to the front patio, and in the bunk bedroom the top bunk can be removed if only a single bed is required. Steps from the patio-area lead down to a meadow garden, sometimes visited by a couple of the Owners' free-range chickens, where there is plenty of space for children to play. If you can tear yourself away from Downalong to explore the local area, within a fifteen-minute drive to the north is Portreath with its child-friendly sandy beach, or to the south there is Falmouth – a bustling maritime town with a fascinating harbour, superb beaches and good shopping and eating, as well as ferry trips to Truro, St Mawes, and the Helford River, beside which are several National Trust gardens to enjoy.
