This converted single-storey barn at Knighton Farm is set down a mile of very well-kept track and looks over fields towards the Exmoor village of Withypool and the moors. French windows open onto the patio and garden and make the most of the stunning and unspoilt views here. Detached and spacious, Foxlair Cottage has an open plan living area, a separate utility-room and a covered enclosed courtyard with further garden access. The large double bedroom is tucked away at the other end of the cottage, looking out into the covered courtyard – perfect as a dog bedroom! The Owners farm the surrounding land, which includes river frontage with fishing rights on the river Barle and Creenagh’s Cottage (2554) is across the farmyard.

If you want to truly get away from it all, this is the place to choose. Within moments you can be on open moorland – you don’t even have to get in the car. You can arm yourself with a map and a packed lunch and set off to explore this glorious National Park. The friendly Owners will share their local knowledge and point you in the best directions. Exmoor has wild open spaces, deep valleys, woodland and tumbling rivers. For provisions you can use the local village shop which is very well-stocked – they will even arrange an advance for you – and there is a lovely seasonal tea shop too for a treat if you decide to walk down from the cottage. A bit further afield is the lovely market town of Dulverton – a bustling little place with plenty of shops, cafes and places to eat. Towards the coast you will find the medieval town of Dunster with its National Trust castle, or take an adventurous route towards Porlock where Exmoor meets the sea. Lovely home-cooked meals and produce from the farm can be purchased from the Owners.
