Mr Souster June 2025

Stonewater Barn is a very cleverly renovated, compact 'upside down' stone house of an interesting design. The raised private deck with garden furniture which is accessed directly from the French doors of the main living area (with two v comfortable brown leather sofas) is a magnet when the sun shines, and the perfect place to have breakfast or an evening drink overlooking the owner's large garden, also available for the use of guests, with sun loungers provided. The quality of the fixtures and fittings, and everything in the house generally, was much higher than might normally be expected (eg. a Dyson hairdryer!), with various bits of modern art and sculpture, lovely furniture, etc. The kitchen had everything you might need, and the bathroom and shower were very modern, with solid marble shower tray. Location-wise, it is near a bus stop but bus timings were not too accurate and the first bus we tried to catch was full so we weren't allowed on! The walk into town was fine for us even though slightly hilly, but the walk does take you through the slightly seedier edges of Brixham and some of the pavements were rather dirty. Once in town, there were several very good places where you could get a meal - with the best ones really neeeding to be booked to make sure of a table (a good sign!). The property wouldn't be suitable for anyone who finds fairly steep stairs a problem, and if you are tall, do mind your head! It was a very uplifting place to stay, though, and would recommend if you enjoy the good things in life. We enjoyed our stay. ...

Fabulous place for a couple to stay, wonderful location, so much to do and most of it doesn’t require a car. A pleasure to return to this tranquil spot each night.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Stonewater Barn. The accommodation is very comfortable, well equipped and peaceful, and our hostess, Pat, was very friendly and gave great advice on places to go, walks, restaurants and outings. There is so much to see and do nearby, the Barn is in a great location to enjoy this part of Devon....

We loved the very tasteful, and stylish conversion of the old barn, and thought it provided high quality accommodation for 2 people. The decoration and furnishings etc have all been very carefully selected. The garden area and outside terrace are so picturesque and quiet and are beautiful areas to sit when the weather permits. It is a good base from which to explore Brixham and the surrounding area. Both the harbour and the SW Coast path can be reached in approx. 30 minutes on foot. We would certainly like to return in future....

Stonewater cottage is of high quality with ample opportunities for sitting outside as well as inside, which was perfect for the warm spell we were there. Owner Pat was very friendly giving us great advice for what to do and equally what to avoid. Cottage is located in an attractive area of Brixham within walking distance of downtown and the harbour but far away enough away to be able to escape to peace and quiet. We recommend Stonewater Cottage to any couple looking to have a good base from which to investigate South Devon....
