Glorious location and no need to cook with a pub five minutes up the hill. Warm as toast on damp days.
Mrs Codling September 2021
We enjoyed a peaceful week at Four Chimneys. Coming from London we appreciated the location on the edge of a quiet village, surrounded by trees and birdsong. We walked to the Clovelly Inn where we enjoyed a couple of good meals.
Mr Needham September 2021
The house was a good size and is well equipped. Nice garden to walk in although a bit overgrown and steep in places.
Nicely decorated and furnished. The bathrooms and kitchens are recently refurbished in a modern/rustic style and look really good. Fitted with central heating, the property is warm and cosy.
The property is located on a minor road very close to Bratton Clovelly village, about 20 mins to the A30 Okehampton junction. Very quiet location and hardly any traffic passing by. Only 5-10 mins walk to the village pub (up a steep hill). Food at the pub (a free house) is excellent and good value for money.
Plenty of room for two cars to park.
Unfortunately the property suffers from a severe damp problem, particularly in the lower lounge and there is a strong mouldy smell through much of the house. Hopefully the owners can resolve this. Other than this the house would have been excellent and we would have given a 5 star rating.

Thanks so much for taking the time to review Four Chimneys and for your helpful observations, which we are sure will prove useful to future guests. We're really sorry that you felt that the propety was damp - the owner has inspected and could not detect any odour of dampness and we have had no further reports of this being a problem but we'll certainly keep an eye on this moving forwards. Comfortable and well equipped cottage on the edge of a pretty village setting. A very peaceful base, well located for trips in the area. Pleasant relaxing garden with interesting plants to explore. Village pub (Clovelly Inn) welcoming with reasonably priced hearty food and a well kept Doon Bar. Would happily return to the cottage as a base for further exploration of the beautiful area. Not so impressed that the housekeeping service (Southwest Domestic) left the house unlocked whilst we were out!

A wonderful, comfortable and homely cottage. Very peaceful and quiet. We had an issue in day 1 but the way the owner & classic cottages dealt with it was outstanding, and all repaired first thing on Sunday morning. We would definitely stay again!

Mrs Hopwood July 2021
Very well equipped cottage with charming original features
Mrs Nurock July 2021
The cottage was extremely comfortable and the wonderfully lush garden provided an oasis from the heatwave that occurred while we were staying. The cottage was well located for exploring the coast (Boscastle, Widemouth Bay) and Dartmoor. We enjoyed the food at the Clovelly Inn, especially the puddings!
Mrs Haysom June 2021
A lovely quiet well equipped cottage which enabled our family to holiday together - 3 adult couples and 2 dogs. We were truly blessed with fantastic weather all week (although the locals say this is unusual for this location!)
Mrs Robertson October 2020
Very nicely appointed, quiet and away-from-it-all, yet with a village just up the hill. Lovely Aga warmth in winter months!
Mr Smith July 2020
Great relaxing cottage with lovely gardens and ideal for a family break
Mrs Cullen July 2020
If you want a holiday off the beaten track this is the place for you.
Mrs Hammond October 2019
Excellent property for a large family. Very well equipped to a high standard. Loved the kitchen and AGA. Wouldn’t hesitate to book again
Mrs Fry August 2019
Loved the location as it was central to most places. Beautiful house and grounds and very quiet. Make sure you book at the local pub. The food is lovely and you get a good sized portion but it gets booked up very quickly so best to book in advance.
Mr Hiney June 2019
Lovely quiet country location in the village, with excellent village pub nearby
Mrs Laycock November 2018
We had a wonderful time at Four Chimneys celebrating my friends 60th birthday. The location is very rural, extremely quiet and peaceful and beautiful walks from the door. The garden is beautiful and a delight to look at over breakfast in the warm cosy aga kitchen. We had excellent customer service from Luke the housekeeper, putting up banners for the birthday girl and leaving her a few birthday treats, thank you very much it was appreciated. Also responding immediately to us when we couldn’t find an initial supply of logs,he even lit a fire for us!! Just great service. The Pack Horse trail walk was glorious in the Autumn sunshine with spectacular views of the changing colour in the trees. It is an very very steep hill climb to the pub,not far but steep, not for the less able guest I’m afraid . Lovely village, interesting church and amazing views. We loved RHS Rosemoor, again spectacular and stunning Autumn colour, the Wow factor.Restaurant was excellent. Oakhampton was a nice little town and we dined at The Two Rivers Restaurant for quite simply one of the best Sunday lunches ever!! And that’s coming from four ladies who can cook!! Roadford Lake 3 Miles away and a great place to walk and lovely cafe. Four Chimneys is quite a special property,we really liked it.It didn’t really have a luxurious feel about it as in the description and as I’d hoped for but more of a “ lived in and homely feel”.Its not just a holiday let , the owners clearly use it too. Lucky them I’d say!! Thank you.
Mr. Rompelberg August 2018
Great base for exploring Dartmoor and Devon. The local pub is highly recommended, friendly hosts and good food.
Mrs Colley April 2018
This is a really charming cottage in a beautiful location. We really enjoyed relaxing in the house, especially the cosy kitchen/dinning room overlooking the garden which is enchanting. Lots of places to visit nearby and beautiful walks, but a car is necessary to really get the most out of the location. Will definitely be visiting again.
