Full of charm and soul, this cabin nestled in the heart of the Welsh countryside offers the ultimate escape, surrounded only by rolling hills and mountain views – dreamy.

Built using reclaimed and sustainably sourced materials, every inch of Caban Tarren has been lovingly crafted by its owners. Step inside and you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable stay. Taking centre stage is the large, king-size bed, framed by windows on all sides that perfectly capture the breathtaking views across the Usk Valley. Enjoy slow mornings in bed, watching clouds dance across the hills as you plan the day’s adventure.

The sofa provides plenty of space for admiring the views and watching the flames from the wood burner. A shelf above the bed is home to plenty of books waiting to be read, ideal for quiet afternoons spent inside.

The cabin’s petite kitchen is thoughtfully equipped with a kettle, two-ring hob and a fridge. Dine together on the neatly stored wooden bench and table, and after dinner, challenge each other to a game of chess on the hand-whittled board provided.

The shower-room lies just off the main living space. Push open the beautiful 17th century farmhouse door that’s been given a new lease of life in the cabin, and you’ll discover a rainfall shower with one of the finest views in Wales.

Outside, the cabin’s raised, wraparound deck gives a wonderful vantage point for admiring the landscape around you. Spot neighbouring sheep grazing nearby or listen closely to hear the owls chatter and chirp across the fields. Below the deck there’s a sheltered alfresco kitchen for warmer evenings, and a firepit too. Gather on the wooden loungers, toast marshmallows and while away the evening as the sun dips beneath the hill-dotted horizon.

Caban Tarran has been created with the environment firmly in mind. Running entirely on solar power, the cabin offers a true digital detox. It even has its own spring water source too.

If you do decide to leave this peaceful sanctuary, the best way to explore is on foot. Strap on your walking boots and head off along one of the walking trails that lead directly from the cabin door, winding through the surrounding countryside. Best of all, the local pub is just a 25-minute walk away, the perfect reward after a day spent exploring.

The nearby village of Crickhowell is just a short drive away. Full of character with beautiful bridges that span the River Usk, independent shops and plenty of eateries to enjoy a pick me up or two. History lovers can also visit the ruins of Crickhowell Castle and imagine life here in the 12th century.

Venture a little further and you’ll find the iconic literary town of Hay-on-Wye, famous for its abundance of independent bookshops and the world-renowned Hay Festival. Spend an afternoon finding your new favourite book, exploring the antique store and galleries before heading back to the cabin to curl up with your latest literary find.

Caban Tarren’s owner Toolbox Tan offers guests wood-crafting workshops from her nearby studio. Learn how to create something that caught your eye in the cabin, or craft a bespoke piece of your own to take home - a unique souvenir to remember your stay here.
