KingVanilla Skye is set in the most idyllic of locations overlooking the loch and mountains beyond. It is an ideal bolthole for couples looking to get away from it all and having a perfect base to explore the Isle of Skye. This pretty crofter's cottage has been designed to offer you a sense of privacy yet within easy reach of everything this magical island has to offer.
Vanilla Skye is set on one level and you enter through the spacious hallway with a vintage coat stand, just the place for boots, coats and picnic boxes. The sitting-room has an original wooden panelled wall which gives a cosy feel and coupled with the wood-burner ensures a warm welcome whatever season you visit. The large sofa is just the place to put your feet up and relax, maybe plan tomorrow's adventures or catch up on that good book you've been meaning to read. The kitchen is well-equipped and has two windows looking out over the garden, loch and mountains beyond, where else could you cook and admire such stunning scenery. The kitchen door leads out into the garden which is mainly lawn with some wilder areas which are unmown to encourage wildflowers and wildlife. The bedroom has a king-size bed and an intriguing bespoke headboard which mirrors the outline of the mountain range you can see from the cottage. Enjoy a long, leisurely soak in the bath, which also has a shower above.
When you venture outside into the large garden you will find a cabin which has seating and a table and looks out over the scenery beyond, sit here on an evening to watch the sun go down and see the changing light as night draws in. Or for early birds, watch the sun rise with a morning coffee. There is a fire-pit if you fancy al fresco dining. Whatever takes your fancy, Vanilla Skye will delight with its mix of old-world charm and modern comforts.
Vanilla Skye makes the perfect base for exploring the wonders of Skye as well as nearby Raasay and Wester Ross. There is something for everyone - peace and tranquility, superb scenery including the famous Cuillin Mountains, a large variety of wildlife and many historical sites and buildings to visit. Why not take trip to Dunvegan Castle and the coral beach. Neist Point Lighthouse or the beautiful Waternish peninsula are all recommended. If you prefer a more bustling town, try Portree, take a stroll down to the harbour and watch the fishing vessels unload their catch of the day. There are sea trips from Portree where you can watch birds and sea life whilst marvelling at the beauty of the rugged coastline.
The Trotternish peninsula boasts some of Skye's most stunning scenery. From Uig you can take a ferry and visit the Outer Isles of Lewis, Harris and Uist or travel round the peninsula to see the Kilt Rock, Mealt Falls and the Old Man of Storr.
To the south of the island is Broadford, with the southern tip called 'The Garden of Skye'. Armadale Castle and its lovely gardens are well worth a visit. The fairy pools at the foot of the Blaven mountain are a must. Dun Grugaig Iron Age Fort is perched on the top of a cliff for those of an energetic nature.
Eating out is well catered for, try the Three Chimneys in Dunvegan, fine dining since 1984, Scorrybreac or "speckled rock" as its name translates is situated above the harbour in Portree and serves fresh Scottish produce. If you fancy a trendy eatery then look no further than Gasta within the Isle of Skye Candle Co, with a cinema on site too. You can mountain bike, kayak, sit on a beach or just watch the word go by, the choice is yours.
Whatever you decide to do and wherever you decide to explore you will have an amazing time creating wonderful memories of your trip to Skye and to the Vanilla Skye.
