A warm welcome awaits you at this gorgeous retreat for two set in the peace and tranquility of the glorious Cornish countryside. Located at the end of a pretty tree-lined private lane only a few miles from the beaches, clifftop walks and fishing villages of the south coast and the dramatic open landscape of Bodmin Moor, Barton Cottage makes the ideal sanctuary for those seeking both relaxation and recreation.

This single-storey barn conversion has been renovated to an exceptional standard, with the owners taking great pride in creating a stylish and modern interior, dotted with accents of mustard and grey with comfort and quality high on the agenda. Linger over leisurely breakfasts at the dining-table overlooking the courtyard, and on those out-of-season breaks fire up the wood-burner enjoying a good holiday read snuggled up on the sofa or perhaps rocking gently in the country-style rocking chair. Step down into the lovely bedroom where crisp linens, and of course piles of cushions and a cosy throw, dress the super comfy bed and the stylish en suite shower-room will freshen you up for the day ahead. Outside there is a small terrace, which is set up behind the cottage, the perfect spot for morning coffee or evening sundowners whilst listening to the sounds of the countryside, or get even closer to nature with a stroll along the owner's woodland walk – the bluebell display in late spring is really quite spectacular.

Barton Cottage offers the reassurance of friendly owners close by, should you have any questions during your stay, but assurance of privacy if you just want to relax. The family's two friendly dogs will come to say hello when you arrive, offering the warmest of welcomes!

This is a great base for exploring this relatively unknown part of Cornwall. The pretty seaside village of Polperro is packed full of charm and you can take the coastal footpath to Looe, a traditional seaside town where you can join a fishing trip, browse around the shops and galleries, take a boat trip across to Looe Island or enjoy some good old Cornish hospitality in one of the many cafes and restaurants.

The stylish sailing town of Fowey is well worth a visit, with its annual festival and summer regatta, and a little further down the coast discover historic Charlestown with its listed harbour and collection of old ships.

The pretty cottage gardens at Pinsla and the majestic parkland of Lanhydrock (National Trust) will delight garden enthusiasts and head to Bodmin Moor to discover granite outcrops that defy gravity, the remains of the mining engine houses and a whole host of pretty villages with their obligatory pub - perfect when you need to re-fuel.
