Sturthill Stable is a lovely barn conversion on a working dairy farm in the most beautiful Dorset countryside, just a few miles inland from The Jurassic Coast.
The kitchen/dining-room is a very sociable space for all the family.
The patio is a relaxing place for everyone to gather.
The spacious sitting-room has plenty of comfortable seating. Windows all along one wall face the farm - a great viewing gallery.
The kitchen/dining-room has French doors to the patio where you can watch the daily comings and goings of farm life.
The master bedroom - with 'zip and link' beds - set up here as a super-king size bed, but it can be made up as twin beds if you prefer.
The second sitting-room is set up as a playroom.
Guests young and old can enjoy this '4 in one' games-table; table-football, mini-pool, table-tennis and air hockey.
Stairs to the first floor and the door through to the ground floor shower-room with the kitchen/dining-room beyond.
This fabulous tennis court is a real bonus for the energetic.
The dairy herd will become a familiar sight.
Bridport is just a few miles away - a lovely bustling market town with plenty of independent shops and cafes as well as two markets a week.
West Bay just outside Bridport is only six miles away, this is the pretty harbour. Yet another great cafe here....The Watchhouse Cafe, right on the beach.
Nearby Seatown, with Golden Cap in the background and the award-winning Anchor Inn in the foreground.
Lyme Regis is a fabulous place to visit, so much to see and do all year round.
The Hive Beach Cafe at Burton Bradstock, serving locally caught seafood and delicious cakes.
Another view of the master bedroom; one side has windows overlooking the farm buildings and the countryside beyond. The other side has a high Velux window that allows the light to flood in.
The en suite for the master bedroom.
Another view of the barn which has a little bridge across a stream to the front door.
This is the second twin room at the top of the stairs, where you can watch the cows across the yard.
The other twin room also with views over the farm buildings and the fields beyond.
The family bathroom is on the first floor and there is an additional shower-room and separate WC downstairs.
A stair-gate keeps your little ones safe.
The perfect place to relax, with the tennis court in the background.
What about a family tennis tournament?
There is plenty of outside space, offering a farm setting that children will be sure to remember. Do please supervise children at all times.
This is the view towards the coast from the top of the lane leading to Sturthill Stable.
Monkey World is a primate rescue and rehabilitation centre, between Dorchester and Wareham.
An extensive collection of tanks at The Tank Museum, Bovington.
The cliffs at West Bay, one of the filming scenes for the TV series Broadchurch.

Crabbing lines, the perfect pastime for children of all ages.
A fabulous rural setting on a working dairy farm.

Beautiful, well equipped and comfortable cottage

Loved this cottage - so close to Hive Beach and West Bay with their fantastic sunsets.

We chose this cottage because of the rural location and the separate games room for the children but unfortunately came away a little disappointed. The cottage itself is beautiful - very spacious with extremely comfortable beds and very well equipped. I was never found wanting for anything. We were hoping to have more of a countryside view but there is no view at all, only of the farm buildings. To get a view you have to go up to the top of the tennis court which wasn’t really practical. Visitors also have to note that it is on a farm site so you will be swatting flies all day long. Even with the windows shut they still manage to get in! The owners provide a fly swatter in every room and fly spray etc. The tennis court is a nice extra - you need to take flat tennis shoes and your own rackets. The grass area next to it is big but is away from the cottage so not suitable to release young children there while you sit inside. We had ages 5 and 9 with us. They enjoyed the games room and watched a couple of films on their own TV. It’s in a good location for exploring the area - about a mile from a main road but not audible. Absolutely no phone signal and WiFi package is limited so download films etc that you want to watch before you go. If you’re prone to hot flushes, this isn’t the property for you because they have to leave a radiator on maximum all day (something to do with the plumbing) and it got very hot some evenings. If you want an active holiday going out most of the day this is a lovely cottage and well equipped but if you want to relax a bit more onsite and enjoy a garden and some lovely views, I wouldn’t say this is the right property for that.

Thank you for your review. Sturthill Stable is a very rural property located at the heart of a working dairy farm - although there aren't countryside views directly from the property which would be advertised, there are some beautiful countryside walks right on your door step to make the most of. Flies are unfortunately an everyday occurrence for rural farm-based properties and the owners have tried to alleviate any disturbance as far as they possibly can. Unfortunately mobile reception can be a little hit and miss in some rural locations so we'd always recommend checking with your service provider before travel if this is an important element. We've also noted your comments regarding the radiator and we'll certainly get that checked. We're really pleased that you enjoyed the tennis court and games-room and you found the cottage comfortable overall - if you're looking for something a little less rural in the future, please don't hesitate to get in touch and we'd be delighted to help. Another lovely cottage from classic cottages. A beautiful location and well equipped with all that you would expect to have in your own home. The whole family, including our dog, felt relaxed, happy and enjoyed all the cottage, the farm and exploring the surrounding area. The playroom was an added bonus and our children enjoyed the toys and games table lots.

A lovely, very well equipped and cosy but spacious cottage in which to spend a week although we could quite happily have stayed for longer. It is within easy reach of wonderful walks for us to take our dog to especially Burton Bradstock where we could take hi for a run on the beach followed by a tasty lunch at the Hive Cafe. The countryside around the cottage is beautiful with some amazing views and there are lots of things to do close to it. Although it is in a working farm, we didn't find it intrusive at all.

Beautiful location in a working dairy farm. Good access to local amenities. Use of land line phone. Limited WiFi and total lack of mobile phone signals.

Thanks for letting us know about your stay at Sturthill Stable - we're delighted you liked the beautiful loaction of the property. Due to the properties rural location, the WIFI is limited unfortunately as noted on the property description and mobile signal can be a little hit and miss, however there is use of a landline telephone as you have mentioned. We enjoyed our stay. The cottage was excellent.

Overall excellent......extremely child friendly.

Warm welcome and lovely, well equipped accommodation. Perfect for a relaxing stay on a working farm.

Lovely cottage in a great location. Very spacious and well equipped. Would recommend and hope to go back ourselves next year.

Just a fabulous family holiday home, all needs catered for.

Lovely property, very high standard of internal finishes ... and very comfy beds!

Peacefully situated opposite a working farm in the country, yet only a few miles from Bridport which has plenty of shops. Easy to visit many places along the Jurassic Coast. Stunning barn conversion and more than happy to keep retuning to. Made to feel very welcome by Jo and her husband.

We have just enjoyed our third trip to Sturtill Stable as we really love the area. The stable is ideally located for all the beautiful beaches and we have enjoyed visiting the lively town of Bridport and Dorchester is really nice, especially if the weather isn't so good (plenty of museums for the children). Sturtill Stable is always very clean and comfortable with all you need for a perfect family holiday. We particularly like staying in the autumn and enjoy being able to walk around the farm fields. Have seen lots of wildlife around the farm including deer. Jo and family are always really helpful and we hope to return again soon.

An extremely comfortable and beautiful place to spend a family holiday.

The best holiday cottage we have stayed in, Sturthill Stable is well appointed, warm and welcoming. We have thoroughly enjoyed our two visits there.

A warm and friendly welcome from the owners made us feel at home in this spacious, comfortable, beautifully finished barn conversion. Peaceful location, but within easy reach of local amenities, coast and countryside.

Lovely setting. Very welcoming hostess and family.Spacious and attractive. Lovely kitchen. Attractive and restful lounge.

A great cottage in a great location.

Perfect for families with little ones of any age. Just a beautiful spot and wonderfully well appointed cottage. The best holiday I have had in years!

Wonderfully appointed property and fantastic location - a great place for a break in Dorset!

I give it 5 stars.

This was the best property we have stayed in. It is a beautifully converted old stable and everything you could possibly need was provided and to a very high standard. We loved the peace and quiet of the property - no disturbance by staying on a working farm. We really appreciated the lemon drizzle cake and tea making provisions waiting for us together with the beautiful vase of cottage garden flowers -just like in the picture!

An extremely high quality barn conversion that's been well thought out to maximise space. A great location for exploring the Jurassic Coast and then retreating to rural peace and quiet. Lovely helpful though not intrusive owners.

Beautiful spacious stable conversion. Excellent for children as there is lots of room to play inside and out. Also many thoughtful touches for younger gusts such as night light near the stairs, children's cutlery, lots of games etc. We have stayed in several Classic properties and this is one of the best equipped. We loved the area and stunning coastline. Bridport is a lively town with a great atmosphere. Definitely planning to return to Dorset. Sturthill Stable is very well located for beaches and exploring generally. The owners were very hospitable and able to offer advice on places to visit.
