This newly renovated, detached barn conversion has been carefully designed to give guests privacy, with plenty of outside space and a peaceful outlook over a wildlife meadow. The setting at the end of a private lane includes access to a wonderful two and a half acre arboretum, which contains more than 200 very special trees. The outlook from the fully enclosed cottage garden is lovely as it is but the extra space of the arboretum is a wonderful and unique bonus to explore, with paths cut through the grass, where you can sit and read or have a relaxing picnic on a lazy sunny afternoon.
This cottage has been designed to be as eco-friendly as possible with some forward thinking features built into the design. It has a gorgeous kitchen/dining-room with real farmhouse character alongside a stylish contemporary feel, with double doors to the patio. There is a large sitting-room with a wood-burner and this room also has access directly to the patio and private garden. Upstairs are the master bedroom with an en suite shower-room, a second bedroom with twin beds - which the owner can put together as a king-size double for you upon request - and a bathroom with a fitted shower. An atrium on the landing between the bedrooms is a special feature that brings extra light into this very welcoming, dog-friendly property.
The cottage faces away from the farmstead where the owners live so you will feel very independent but they are on hand should you need anything.
Crab Apple Cottage is easy to reach and great as a base for exploring, yet feels far from the madding crowd. If you want a day without the car you can stroll along a footpath from the entrance to the farmstead, through woodland, directly to Keeper's Cottage for a lovely pub lunch. Honiton is a famous market town with many antiques shops to rummage in, market stalls line the high street three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and there is a cheerful cafe culture too.
Beyond Honiton a beautiful route takes you up and over a ridge of hills above the Jurassic Coast, to the Regency town of Sidmouth and a chain of classic seaside villages such as Branscombe, Beer and Budleigh Salterton. Right on the east Devon and Dorset border is Lyme Regis with its famous harbour. The Blackdown Hills are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and if you arm yourselves with an Ordnance Survey map you will be able to follow a wonderful choice of footpaths and bridleways.

The sitting-room has a wood-burning stove and deep comfy sofas to curl up on.
Two sets of doors open onto this wide paved terrace and the fully enclosed garden. The post and rail fending also has rabbit proof wire and so is as secure as is reasonable possible.
The kitchen/dining room is really spacious, with a back door opening to the farmstead. The main dedicated entrance is to the front of the cottage, where there is plenty of private parking.
The two and a half acre arboretum is the most beautiful and peaceful place to explore, sit with a book or have a picnic lunch.
Stairs lead from the sitting-room to the first floor of the cottage. There is also a door directly out onto the patio. This is your main entrance from the parking and garden.
The kitchen is a delightful sociable space to cook in, with the farmhouse table in the other half of the room
The sparkling worktop will inspire you to cook in, but there is also a footpath through woodland directly to the friendly local pub.

The main bedroom has a king-size bed and its own en suite shower-room. High ceilings and a large window make this room lovely and light and airy.
You can sit in bed with your morning cup of tea and look out over the meadow. You are quite likely to see deer grazing in the evening or early in the morning.

This is the en suite shower-room for the master bedroom. The wonderful shower has a rainfall drench shower head as well as a conventional one.
The twin bedroom has views out over the 2.5 acre arboretum which is filled with unique tree species.
