Fascinating Fossils

Fond chilhood memories of trawling slowly along the beach; the excitement at turning over each new stone that it might be THE ONE, the final resting place of some perfectly preserved prehistoric creature, lying in wait for thousands and thousands of years to be discovered. Would love to return and find some of those elusive ammonites one day.

The Lugger Inn (3 ½ miles)

In the village of Chickerell you'll find this traditional public house with skittle alley, beer garden and restaurant. Dorset real ales are on offer alongside local ciders and over 60 malt whiskies. Live music often takes place on Friday and Saturday evenings. Give them a call for further info.

The Lugger Inn

Great food, excellent staff, good observation of Covid standards. The best Sunday roast!

Ringstead Beach (3 ½ miles)

Home to around 700 yards of shingle beach, Ringstead Beach on the Jurassic Coast has plenty of space for everyone to find a quiet corner of their own. For ease, a shop and cafe are located in the car park. The east end of the main beach, which is about a 20 minute walk, is a nudist area. Ringstead is a dog-friendly beach.

Apart from Studland this is our favourite beach spot in West Dorset. Parking is free at top of the hill but it's a longish walk down; you pay to use the toll road down to the car park near the beach.

Weymouth Central Beach (2 miles)

Weymouth Central Beach sits alongside the town in a sweeping arc of shingle and powdery sand. Home to all manner of quintessential seaside activities, from crazy golf to Punch and Judy shows to equipment hire, visitors can create their own perfect seaside experience. Lifeguarded by the RNLI, this family-friendly beach is very popular throughout the summer and is a great choice for those looking for a slice of the action.

Great beach close to amenities and with lots to do. Really cool beach for families and those who like to be where the action is, but not great for those looking for quieter spots as Weymouth tends to get really busy in the summer months.
