With a traditional menu offering a seasonally changing menu using local produce, this pub is popular with both locals and visitors alike. With a choice of dining in the restaurant, conservatory or bar it's recommended you book ahead as they all get busy. Access is from the main road through the village and you can either park alongside or in the car park close by.

Pevensey Bay Beach (16 miles)

William the Conqueror landed here in 1066 before the historic Battle of Hastings. At the time the harbour was a bustling port but over time the coast has receded and now the local village is over a mile away from the beach. These days the shingle beach is pretty quiet with good views over the channel. Pay and display parking is available nearby and dogs are allowed although restrictions may apply in high season.

A gentle three mile meander around the village and surrounding countryside. The starting point is South Street car park and the route is available from this website www.mayfieldfiveashes.org.uk or from the Classic Cottages office on the High Street.

Originally named after the Saxon definition "Maid's Field",the current Mayfield is a delightful large village with pretty red brick buildings and artisan shops including a jewellers and wooden ware producer. The delicatessen sells a wide selection of local produce and the butcher all you need for a barbeque. On street parking is usually available next to the raised brick pavements and there's free parking too in the car park nearby.

A cute little cafe conveniently placed in the centre of the village. Interiors are rustic and charming with fresh flowers adorning tables and magazines to read. Food is freshly prepared and the staff are lovely.

Rose and Crown (¾ mile)

A traditional coaching inn with car parking and an outdoor seating area for summer months and a warming log fire for winter time. Food is reshly made using locally sourced produce.

Oast Farm Shop and Cafe (6 ¼ miles)

If you're in the area a visit here is a must. You can pick your own seasonal fruit, shop for local produce and call in to the cafe for a well deserved break. Food is locally sourced and vegans, gluten and dairy free options are available.

The Kings Arms Rotherfield (2 ¼ miles)

Located in the centre of the village, this grade 11 listed old coaching inn offers a lovely patio and garden for sunny weather and cosy interiors with an open fire for winter months. Parking is available and local ales are sold here.

Rotherfield (2 ¼ miles)

A rural village with a small collection of shops. St Denys, the local church is Grade 1 listed and worth a look and the area is a designated conservation area due to the quality of the buildings.
