Wind your way along the leafy lane that leads to the historic and most beautiful Restormel Estate, cradled in the heart of the Fowey Valley, where this little beauty is waiting to treat you to a luxury family holiday or romantic getaway. It's the place to reconnect with nature, and each other, as you immerse yourself in the breathtaking Cornish landscape that surrounds, wallow in the tranquil setting and learn to take things at a slightly slower pace of life.
Transformed from its humble origins as an agricultural barn, Diggery is one of six cottages set around a central courtyard, where mature planting creates sheltered garden spaces and privacy.
Step inside and you'll discover a home that's as welcoming as it is beautiful, carefully styled with unique antique pieces, wonderful artwork, luxury linens and all the necessary mod-cons, creating a retreat that invites relaxation from the minute you arrive.
The open plan living-room, twin bedroom and family bathroom are on the ground floor, ideal for those who want a little more privacy or are less mobile. Ascend the stairs to the gorgeous double room, perfectly styled to complement the countryside setting with views over the courtyard and Restormel Castle beyond; it also has the luxury of an en suite shower-room to save you worrying about the stairs in the middle of the night!!
For the fishermen - and women - amongst you, there is complimentary fishing (seasonal) in the River Fowey that weaves its way through the Estate and for further relaxation guests have use of the leisure facilities, shared with others staying on site, which include a tennis court, indoor heated pool, sauna, steam room, games-room and children's play area - what more could you ask for.
Pack your wellies, your walking boots and your flip-flops to make the most of this retreat that serves up the perfect mix of countryside and coast. Once you have discovered all the beauty on the Estate, hiked up to the historic Restormel Castle standing majestically on the hill and taken what will no doubt become a daily jaunt up to the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery to treat yourself to their tasty delights, it's time to venture a little further afield.
Set close to the ancient stannary town of Lostwithiel, there are unique finds to be had in the antiques shops that line the streets, local produce to pick up from the deli and plenty of places to stop for something to eat and drink. The gentle waters and sheltered bays along the south coast are within easy reach whether you are tempted to try your hand at some water sports at Polkerris, wild swimming at Menabilly or enjoying a good stomp along the coastal path.
Watch the comings and goings along the water or hop on a boat trip at the fashionable sailing town of Fowey which has a great choice of waterside eateries, independent shops and galleries. Wander the historic harbourside of Charlestown - as featured in the Poldark series - and for garden enthusiasts The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Eden Project are a must.
