For a real treat choose The Byre at Birdforth Hall for an unforgettable Yorkshire staycation. Surrounded by fields and rolling countryside with the market towns of Thirsk with its James Herriot associations only minutes away and Helmsley's individual shops, castle and chic charm but a short drive away over the amazing Sutton Bank. Lofty and light, this skilfully renovated old farm building The Byre combines the traditional with the stylish and offers you a spacious base from which to enjoy your Yorkshire adventure. Beautifully hewn beams are a feature of this delightful property giving a nod to its history and past. If you're not chilling in the sumptuous sitting-room or chatting round the impressive dining-table, you'll be splashing in the shared heated swimming pool or walking in the glorious Yorkshire countryside. Fabulous for parties of friends or family gatherings

The large and inviting vaulted sitting-room with grand squashy sofas and a roaring wood-burner for those chilly evenings makes The Byre a perfect choice whatever the season. Walk through the hallway, a great place for your muddy boots or sandy shoes after a day on the moors or the beach. Shop for delicious produce from the many local farm shops and artisan producers or sample some local beef from the family farm then have the holiday cook rustle up a tasty meal in the stylish and well-equipped kitchen. Gather yourselves around the enormous dining-table and tuck into those foodie creations, why not pop a cork or two, it is a holiday after all.

And so to bed, the four bedrooms, sleeping ten (including the day bed in bedroom four), are decorated in a country-style and are graced with cosy duvets and crisp white linen, just the place to snuggle down for a good night's sleep. On the ground floor there is a bedroom with a double and single bed, perfect for the not so nimble, and a beautifully tiled en suite. Climb the stairs and you will be met with three more delightful bedrooms - a double, a twin and a king room which also has a day bed for occasional use and available for an additional guest on request - and all are en suite.

On a sunny morning or balmy evening, the outside space at Birdforth Hall will not disappoint. Savour an al fresco meal, listen to the birds and catch up with family and friends. In the shared garden area, there is a barbecue and space for the children to have a run around. The Pizza Shack with wood-fired pizza oven is graced with fairy lights and rustic furniture, dough balls and pizza packs can be purchased from the owner, she even makes delicious desserts, just ask. Visit Bella the pet pig and the horses Rhubarb and Revel, and watch the cute, free-range farm chickens and cockerel as they wander around. Everyone will love the large indoor swimming pool which has specific allocated times for private use or enjoy a game of pool in the games area, great for inclement weather days.

The Byre joins Mill House and if booked together can sleep up to 22 guests.

Situated in the Vale of York, The Byre is perfectly placed with the North York Moors to the east and the Yorkshire Dales to the west. The closest town is Thirsk, only minutes away and with a distinct charm all of its own. The cobbled market square is surrounded by shops and restaurants and holds traditional markets twice a week on Mondays and Saturdays. Famous for its association with James Herriot, the Yorkshire Vet, whose veterinary surgery is now a world class museum and worth a visit.

There is Thirsk racecourse if you fancy a flutter and walks and cycle tracks too numerous to mention. Explore the ancient abbeys of Rievaulx, Byland and Fountains Abbey or drive over the moors to the most iconic of them all, Whitby Abbey.

York is only 20 miles away with its medieval walls, historic minster and vibrant shopping and nightlife.

If you want to dip your toes into the sea and laze on the beach the east coast towns of Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Staithes are within easy distance.

Book a special treat at one of the two local Michelin star restaurants, The Black Swan at Oldstead or The Star at Harome. The local pub, the Old Black Bull is four miles away at Raskelf.

For the more energetic, cycling is ever popular since the Tour de Yorkshire in 2016, try out the famous climbs of Boltby Bank, Cote De Grosmont and the infamous Rosedale Chimney Bank.

Whatever you decide to do, one visit will never be enough, that's why guests return time and time again.
