Gone are the horses and grooms from this former stable and in their place you will find luxurious spaces with a hot tub, under-floor heating and a cosy wood-burner all in a delightful hamlet on the edge of the North York Moors. The Stables is a gorgeous single-storey, renovated stable sleeping nine on the Birdforth Hall complex which boasts a large indoor swimming pool with games area to splash away an afternoon. Come the evening, switch on the fairy lights and fire up the pizza oven in the Pizza Shack. The Stables really is a haven of relaxation where contemporary design meets traditional style. Sit awhile in the garden and gaze over the fields watching the sun go down then get the logs blazing beneath the chunky beams and savour the calm serenity that The Stables offers. The horses never had it so good
Enter the hallway and kick off your shoes ready to start your holiday adventure. Here you will find a sophisticated and well-equipped kitchen which looks over the garden and boasts a farmhouse table where you can draw up a chair and settle down with a cup of Yorkshire tea or something stronger and keep the chef company.
The large sitting-room features gorgeous comfy sofas, a welcome log-burner and doors leading out to the patio and private garden. The sun streams in through the large windows bathing the room in dappled light. Contemporary comfort oozes from this delightful room.
There are four spacious bedrooms and three beautifully tiled bathrooms. You will find a dreamy king-size bedroom featuring an impressive stylish bedframe and matching bedside tables, this room also has a sofa bed plus an en suite with bath and shower cubicle. There is a second bedroom with a king-size bed and en suite. The Stables is perfect for families with children as there are two further bedrooms, one with twin beds and one with a single bed and a set of triple bunk-beds, and a family bathroom with bath and shower cubicle. All these beds are suitable for adults and children, and all boast crisp white linen, cosy duvets and fluffy pillows.
Outside in your gorgeous garden you're ready to recline and relax. Kick off your shoes, grab a glass of bubbles and slip into the hot tub for some me time. Garden furniture offers you a place to come together in the sunshine and share al fresco mealtimes, why not enjoy a tasty barbecue using local meat from the farm's cattle. The garden looks over the countryside and fields and is bordered by a lovely beech hedge. The children will love the lawned area and will hopefully run off excess energy before bedtime. Chill out in the large indoor heated swimming pool which has specific allocated times for private use , or enjoy a game of pool in the games area, great for inclement weather days. Have a go at making a pizza in the Pizza Shack, the owner will provide dough balls and produce packs, even a dessert or two, just ask (owner has prices).
At The Stables you couldn't be better placed to enjoy the charms of Yorkshire which promise some of the best cycling, walking, sightseeing, retail therapy and coastline villages you will find anywhere. If you are a committed foodie then Yorkshire really is for you, local produce, great restaurants, Malton with its accolade of being the Food Capital of the North and three Michelin starred establishments within easy driving distance, you will be spoilt for choice.
There is a sofa bed that can accommodate up to an additional two guests on request.
Situated in the Vale of York, The Stables is perfectly placed with the North York Moors to the east and the Yorkshire Dales to the west. The closest town is Thirsk, only minutes away and with a distinct charm all of its own. The cobbled market square is surrounded by shops and restaurants and holds traditional markets twice a week on Mondays and Saturdays. Famous for its association with James Herriot, the Yorkshire Vet, whose veterinary surgery is now a world class museum and worth a visit.
There is Thirsk racecourse if you fancy a flutter and walks and cycle tracks too numerous to mention. Explore the ancient abbeys of Rievaulx, Byland and Fountains Abbey or drive over the moors to the most iconic of them all, Whitby Abbey.
York is only 20 miles away with its medieval walls, historic minster and vibrant shopping and nightlife.
If you want to dip your toes into the sea and laze on the beach the east coast towns of Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Staithes are within easy distance.
Book a special treat at one of the two local Michelin star restaurants, The Black Swan at Oldstead or The Star at Harome. The local pub, the Old Black Bull is four miles away at Raskelf.
For the more energetic, cycling is ever popular since the Tour de Yorkshire in 2016, try out the famous climbs of Boltby Bank, Cote De Grosmont and the infamous Rosedale Chimney Bank.
Whatever you decide to do, one visit will never be enough, that's why guests return time and time again.
