Taking a trip over to Burgh Island is a must, especially if you leave it until the tide is in, as the sea tractor ferry service is a fabulous adventure. Bigbury-on-Sea is also home to one of the most stunning beaches. Whether you choose to while away the day on the golden sand or try your hand at something more adventurous on the water such as windsurfing or canoeing, Bigbury's beautiful beach is perfect for both.

For a touch of harbourside life, head for Brixham, a bustling fishing town where you can go for a dip in the local sea pool before enjoying fish and chips from the paper on the harbourside. Berry Head Nature reserve is close by, a breathtakingly beautiful place with nature trails, wildlife and a working lighthouse.

From Totnes take a cruise along the River Dart to Dartmouth, a beautiful town steeped in naval history and a fabulous place to explore. Perhaps a visit to Greenway is the order of the day, once the home of author Agatha Christie and now owned by the National Trust with beautiful gardens and a stunning house to explore.
