Situated in a row of pretty Cornish granite cottages, Bal Maiden's Cottage can be found deep in the heart of far west Cornwall in the hamlet of Trewellard. Just a short journey away from St Ives, it's simply perfect for walkers and nature lovers looking to explore the delights of the Cornish coast.
Surrounded by rugged countryside and within easy reach of sandy beaches, hidden coves and pretty fishing villages, this is a very cute abode, built many moons ago as a miner's cottage and now offering cosy accommodation for a small family or couple looking to explore the gorgeous landscapes, miles of coast path and mining history quite literally on your doorstep.
The drive to Bal Maiden's Cottage will take you through the breathtaking scenery of west Cornwall, taking in gorse-covered moorland, pretty villages and dramatic seascapes, welcome to Poldark country! The property has been lovingly restored and retains many original features including a fabulous, exposed granite fireplace which takes pride of place in the cosy sitting-room. Thanks to the wood-burner this lovely cottage is the perfect place for a getaway throughout the year. A small dining-table sits behind the sofa and the kitchen is behind a curtain to the rear of the property.
Upstairs (please note the staircase turns and is a little steep, typical in Cornish cottages), a double and single bedroom await alongside the family bathroom. The double bedroom has a comfy king-size double bed, perfect for a great night's sleep and the single room has a large single, ideal for either a child or adult. The bathroom is a real feature with a sumptuous clawfoot bath and fitted shower over.
Outside you can choose to sit on the front patio and dine al fresco or enjoy the sunshine on the rear courtyard, perfect for morning coffee or an evening aperitif. If you are looking for a rural retreat with scenic coastal walks and breathtaking countryside, then Bal Maiden's Cottage is the perfect choice.
Far west Cornwall is staggeringly beautiful. Rugged coastline, deserted sandy beaches and gorgeous fishing villages make up this beautiful part of England. Trewellard is a tiny hamlet deep in the heart of the countryside yet just a short journey away from the best west Cornwall has to offer.
A visit to west Cornwall would not be complete without popping into St Ives. A mecca for artists, drawn to the effervescent light for centuries, St Ives is a gorgeous seaside town with characterful cobbled streets, galleries, plentiful eateries and of course a choice of stunning beaches. The Tate Gallery is worth a visit to see the latest collections and the cafe on the top floor overlooking Porthmeor beach should not be missed. Surfers should head for Porthmeor beach to catch the Atlantic rollers and families make their way to Porthminster beach for a mile of golden sand, the perfect sandcastle beach. Further along the coast Sennen Cove is a gorgeous place to visit or perhaps try Marazion where kite surfers ply the waters in spectacular fashion.
Iconic St Michael's Mount (National Trust) is simply magical, and you can walk across the causeway at low tide, returning via the ferry when the tide is in. Or perhaps visit the Minack Theatre where concerts and plays take place to the backdrop of the mighty Atlantic.
History buffs can learn all there is to know about the mining heritage of west Cornwall at Geevor Tin Mine and Museum or Levant Mine, owned by the National Trust and just a short distance away. Whether you plan to spend your days discovering the delights of the area on foot or travel further afield, Bal Maiden's Cottage is the perfect choice for a Cornish getaway.
