Bunk-bedsPretty Cadena Cottage sits in an enviable position in Calstock village on the banks of the River Tamar, nestled in a wooded valley and ideal for exploring both Cornwall, Devon and the wilds of Dartmoor. This gorgeous, refurbished cottage has everything you will need for the perfect family holiday, whether you choose to relax by the river or explore further afield and of course no holiday is complete without the family four-legged friend.
Being a traditional Cornish terraced cottage, you will find Cadena sits with a collection of other cottages in a shared private courtyard area although each cottage has their own patio area to the front. Cadena offers the perfect spot for that essential morning coffee after walking the dog along the riverbank or simply watching the world go by as you barbecue away before heading to one of the two pubs for a Cornish beverage.
The front door leads you into the beautiful kitchen/diner which is a true delight with traditional farmhouse table and characterful ornamental wood-burner. This is a great place to gather everyone around the table to chat with the chef. Step through the door into the sitting-room, with double windows letting light flood in through the sash windows and beautifully refurbished with comfort in mind, this is the perfect place to relax in front of the Smart TV. The wood-burner makes this a warm and inviting room throughout the year.
If you can bear to tear yourselves away from the super comfy sofas and head back to the kitchen/diner, climb the winding staircase (care is needed on the steep stairs) where three bedrooms await, all stylishly decorated to suit the cottage theme. Bedrooms one and two are both doubles, decorated in relaxing pastel shades and with original ornamental fireplaces all adding to the character and charm of both rooms. The children in the party will be delighted with bedroom three as it has bunk-beds. The family bathroom is nicely finished and has a bath with shower over, ideal after a day of exploring or simply soak in the bath as the days slow down and you relax into your holiday!
There is on road parking outside the courtyard area of Cadena Cottage which is on a first come first served basis, however never fear, a large free car park is a mere 100 yards away so you will never be without a space. If there isn't a space on arrival simply pop the hazard lights on and set about unloading then head down to the free car park which happens to be next to the pub and river - the perfect reward after a day of travel.
Calstock has all you need when it comes to family holidays. The village has two great pubs with The Boot Inn across the road and renowned for its quirky charm and the best Sunday roast, ideal if the chef wants a night off! Adventurers amongst you may choose to ramble along one of many footpaths and trails whilst water sports enthusiasts will enjoy paddle boarding or kayaking along the river.
A little further afield Tamar Trails has 15 miles of trails to discover by bike or on foot, or perhaps the wilds of Dartmoor are calling where you can trek for miles in stunning scenery. The gorgeous National Trust property of Cotehele is a short walk away as is historic Morwellham Quay where you can discover life of a bygone age.
The maritime city of Plymouth is a great place for a day out with the historic Hoe and Barbican perfect for exploring, or perhaps trendy Royal William Yard for a spot of retail therapy amongst a fabulous choice of restaurants and galleries. If a beach day is on the cards head for Bude or Polzeath, the surfing mecca of the north coast, or try the charming south coast town of Looe with access to gorgeous sandy beaches and award-winning fish and chips.
The market town of Tavistock is a great place to stock up on holiday treats with market days on Tuesdays and Saturdays where you can buy the freshest of local produce. The local railway station offers the opportunity of day trips by train so you may not need to use your car all week!
However you plan to spend your holiday time, a getaway at Cadena Cottage will be one you will remember forever.
