The site was once owned by Alfred the Great and mentioned in the Doomsday Book. If you love history, you can book an archaeology tour with the owner who will give you the history of the farm buildings including the West Dean Dovecote, which is the best preserved part of the old farm buildings and dates from the Medieval era.
