TwinThis beautiful semi-detached rural cottage on a quiet country lane is on the edge of Burwash village in the High Weald countryside in East Sussex. It makes a great base for walkers and is very close to Bateman's, home of Rudyard Kipling.
The cottage has a warm, country feel and retains many of its original features. The open plan living area has a delightful wood-burning stove for those chilly afternoons or evenings. The cottage garden has a patio area; the perfect place to catch the afternoon sun or enjoy a spot of al fresco dining.
You will find everything to hand in the well-equipped kitchen for creating that special meal whilst chatting to family and friends.
Upstairs is the modern bathroom and two beautiful bedrooms. The twin bedroom is perfect for adults or children and the generous double bedroom has a king-size bed and the most wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.
The village of Burwash is a short walk away and boasts two pubs, a tea-room, and a small convenience store. Etchingham Station is just over three miles away and is on the London Charing Cross line to Hastings.
The towns of Battle, Hastings (1066 country) and Lewes, the county town, are approximately half an hour's drive. This is the perfect base for visiting Bateman's (home of Rudyard Kipling) and many other historic sites in the area including Scotney Castle, Bodiam Castle, Herstmonceux Castle and the neighbouring Observatory Science Centre, and Sissinghurst Castle and gardens. A little further afield you could visit the Glyndebourne Festival, Mickleham Priory or the coastal towns of Rye, Pevensey, Eastbourne and Brighton.
Anglers can organise a day's fishing at Lakedown Trout Fishery in Burwash where there are four spring-fed lakes. For something more active, keen cyclists will enjoy visiting Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest where Quench Cycles operate a mountain biking centre based in 2000 acres. There is bike hire and a shop with 6 miles of family trails and 9 miles of red graded track. Or how about kayaking and paddle boarding - Cuckmere Haven, not far from Birling Gap, is a perfect venue for beginners and there is board hire and tuition available from Buzz Active.
