Dormouse is quite simply delightful and rural bliss at its very best. Take the leafy lanes that lead you to this idyllic heavenly hideaway for two, surrounded by lush woodlands and open farmland, with views that are sure to soothe the senses, yet with the beaches, coastal towns and villages of the beautiful south Cornish coast so close by, it really does offer up the best of both worlds.
Step through the garden gate and the delights emerge in front of your very eyes. The setting is sublime and best enjoyed lazing away on the sun loungers, enjoying holiday breakfasts on the terrace or relaxing in the hot tub with the bird song as your background soundtrack.
Inside Dormouse packs a punch, with the sweetest kitchen/dining-room, ideally located for serving up your meals al fresco style and certainly offering the best view in the house with the large window that perfectly frames that most wonderful of views. Here you will also find the shower-room, just in the right place if you want a quick rinse before you dip into that hot tub. Upstairs you are greeted with a spacious open plan living-room and bedroom that will encourage you to snuggle up on the sofa at the end of the day and lazy morning lie-ins catching up on a spot of holiday TV.
Set close to the pretty village of Lanlivery, you can stroll into the village that has the cutest of pop up shops for those vital provisions and a charming village pub with a great selection of local ales and a menu of hearty cuisine, well you don't really want to be cooking whilst on your holidays!
If you can manage to drag yourself off the sun loungers or out of the hot tub this is a great base for coastal capers and country adventures. There are miles of countryside strolls that start right on your doorstep or if you like some adventures on two wheels (and there is plenty of safe storage space for your bikes and surfboards come to mention it!) cycle the trails at Cardinham Woods or Lanhydrock, or drive to the nearby sailing town of Fowey and enjoy its boutique shops, galleries and cafes, perhaps taking a trip out on the water.
Lostwithiel is a charming little town, set on the banks of the river with a small selection of independent shops, many of them specialising in antiques, or pop over to Charlestown where tall ships anchor in the historic harbour. For a day at the seaside Par Sands and Polkerris will certainly do the trick and for those aspiring Monty Dons amongst you, the delights of the world-famous Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the National Trust's Lanhydrock house and gardens are sure to inspire as is the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery, which also boasts an excellent cafe and gift shop.
