Bursting with character and charm, The Byre is waiting to give you that rural experience. Situated in 12 acres of 1066 countryside it is one of Thornden Farm's original outbuildings and has been lovingly restored to provide a cosy getaway. Free from traffic noise apart from the odd tractor and horse hacking up the road, it is a wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

As you open the stable-door into the cosy open plan living area you are greeted by wooden floors, gorgeous beams (one very low) and an inglenook fireplace complete with wood-burner for those cooler evenings. The well-equipped kitchen has a Dolce Gusto coffee machine and there is also an Alexa if you want to play your favourite tunes whilst you rustle up a snack in the kitchen.

The bedroom is a relaxing haven; you are sure to get a good night's sleep in the comfy bed with 100% Egyptian cotton linen. There is a built-in wardrobe, and a door leads to the en suite shower-room.

The Byre is in the grounds of the owners' lovely Grade II listed farmhouse and adjacent to three other holiday cottages: The Old Stable (4733), The Old Barn (4734) and The Coach House (4735), which is ideal for friends or family who wish to holiday together and still have their own space.

Step outside into the beautifully planted communal courtyard and enjoy a drink sitting at the garden table; this will give you the opportunity to chat to neighbouring guests.

Guests have access to a freezer, washing machine and tumble-drier which are shared with the other cottages. Visit the resident farm animals which include chickens, pigs, and horses.

There is an on-site allocated parking space for The Byre and additional parking available on the farm.

Ashburnham is a peaceful hamlet, set in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are some great walks locally and you are only a short drive from the South Downs National Park.

Visit the nearby town of Battle famous for its Abbey and home to several boutiques, arts and craft shops, pubs, and tea rooms. Battle also has a mainline station which connects to London and the coast at Hastings.

The nearest pubs are the Ash Tree Inn, a wonderful dog-friendly country pub and the Swan Inn at Dallington which is one of the oldest pubs in Sussex and famous for its 'Sawblade' floor.

East Sussex is blessed with many historic houses, gardens, and attractions: you could combine a visit to Herstmonceux Castle with The Observatory Science Centre; for art lovers visit the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on Sea, the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings, or the Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne. You are not far from Bodiam Castle and Great Dixter House and Gardens, a must see for keen horticulturists.

If you fancy a trip to the coast, you are only a short drive from Cooden Beach, Pevensey Bay, Hastings, and Eastbourne. A little further afield have fun on the sandy beach and sand dunes of Camber Sands or enjoy a day exploring the medieval town of Rye with its cobbled streets and array of antique shops.
