There's a certain magic and charm to the historic village of Charlestown, and you are only a few steps away from it all - so if you fancy a week off driving, you've picked the right place. Charlestown has a fantastic selection of coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and street food pop ups so you certainly won't be short of places to eat! There's a selection of stylish boutique shops and galleries if you fancy a spot of retail therapy and on warm summer evenings wander along the pretty harbour, marvelling at the historic tall ships whilst picking up a treat from one of the street food stalls.
If you're in search of those breathtaking coastal views synonymous with Cornwall lace up your walking boots, pack a picnic and head out for a scenic walk along the coastal path - your pampered pooch will be in their element. Or enjoy lazy days on the beach, building sandcastles and taking the odd dip in the crystal clear waters. If you're a Poldark fan, Charlestown was one of the favoured locations for filming the popular TV series, so you can seek out the filming locations and walk in the footsteps of Poldark himself!
If you do fancy venturing further afield St Austell Bay is dotted with a number of golden sand beaches and there's a fantastic choice of gardens to visit, including Heligan, Pinetum, Marsh Villa and of course, the Eden Project. The stylish sailing town of Fowey is nearby, and is well worth a visit for its restaurants, cafes, boutiques and galleries or perhaps to kayak up the river to the little village of Lerryn, said to be the inspiration of Kenneth Graham's Wind in the Willows.
