Zip and linkWoodbrook can be found on the edge of the rural north Devon village of Black Torrington and enjoys a setting with no immediate neighbours and backing onto open fields. Positioned on a rural road heading into the village that has a traditional pub serving meals and there's a handy community shop in a nearby village for last minute essentials. Woodbrook offers a warm welcome with a home-from-home feel and is perfect for a family to come together and regroup, recharge and enjoy family time. Its location is ideal for exploring all that north Devon has to offer, from rural walks to the delights of the coast and not forgetting the joys of the market towns - head to South Molton and the pannier market!
The cottage has been extended and developed over the years and marries old character charm with the new additions making it versatile and adaptable to any family configuration. The original parts offer period features and an old worldly charm. The sitting-room boasts exposed ceiling beams, a window seat looking out to the front of the cottage and a beautiful log-burner in the stone inglenook fireplace with a cloam oven, and stairs leading to the first floor behind the original door - remember to duck as the frame is a little low.
The kitchen really is the heart of the cottage with the beautiful red oil-fired 'Stanley' range cooker, fully equipped with everything you need to rustle up a tasty meal before you head off for the day. The kitchen links through to the conservatory with a large dining-table for a laid-back lunch. For a more formal setting you have the dining-room which sits between the kitchen and sitting-room.
The conservatory runs the length of the house and is a sociable area for everyone to come together and of course floods with light thanks to the expanse of glass. A lovely large table is just the spot for a board game at the end of the day. At the other end, another seating area with a relaxed feel is the perfect place to reminisce about the day's adventures!
On the first floor you will discover all three of the simply charming bedrooms that offer beautiful linens, sumptuous beds and rural views from each window. The main bedroom is a perfect example of how the old has married with the new, from the modern conversion with an apex roofline and large Velux window to the original bed frame and matching chest of drawers. The other two bedrooms offer a single bedroom, three foot and suitable for an adult, and a 'zip and link' bed that can be made up as a twin or double to suit your requirements. This bedroom also has a fold out bed that could accommodate a child. The family shower-room is off the hallway on the ground floor and there is a family bathroom on the first floor between the main bedroom and the single room.
The outside area is generous with a parking area for three cars behind the gate from the road making the area secure, and there is a lockable outbuilding for storing bicycles or other outdoor gear. The main garden is laid to lawn and sits higher than the house and is reached by an original path that winds through the garden; being of a certain age the ground is not completely level so please take care. The lawn area is the ideal spot for the children to run freely whilst you can perch on the bench, read a book and let the holiday vibes wash over you.
The busy market towns of Hatherleigh and Holsworthy are seven and eight miles distant respectively and offer village shops. Okehampton, the gateway to Dartmoor, is 14 miles south of Black Torrington offering wonderful walks, cycling and wild swimming a truly beautiful experience no matter the season! If gardens are your passion then look no further than the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, blending formal and informal planting with magical effect. The Cornish coast is also just 16 miles away, so head to Bude for a fun-filled day at the beach and the joys of north Cornwall and its rugged coastline.
Whenever you plan to visit, you are sure of a fabulous holiday at Woodbrook!
