Surrounded by acres of Forestry Commission woodland, the woodland paths that lead right from your back garden promise hours of exploration for you and your four-legged friends. The large lawned gardens will delight young and old alike, and the sunny terrace is the perfect vantage point to simply indulge in the sights and sounds of the countryside - from the songbirds who start the day with their happy tunes through to the calls of the owls at dusk, and spotting the odd rabbit, deer, fox or squirrel as they pass through.
The 'million miles away from it' feeling of this hidden gem, belies the fact that should you want to explore further everything is easily accessible. From the ever-popular north Cornish coast, the dramatic landscape of Bodmin Moor or Cornwall's tropical gardens and historic houses.
Inside Hillside Cottage, the downstairs living area is beautifully open plan with a cosy wood-burner offering a warm welcome. The oak window sills and slate floor, complete with under-floor heating, perfectly complement the environment that surround the cottage and the natural wool throws on the beds will keep you as snug as a bug. The interiors are relaxed with a light and airy feel, an eclectic mix of furniture and stunning artwork on the walls, much of which is that of the talented owner.
You would be forgiven for not wanting to leave during your stay but should you want a change of scene, lace up those walking boots and head off to Bodmin Moor, where quaint villages and their obligatory watering holes are interspersed among the unspoilt scenery of dramatic granite tors and open moorland. Join the renowned Camel Trail either by foot or bike, it's only five minutes away, and enjoy this 17 mile trail that leads all the way to the foodie haven of Padstow on the north coast. For more fun on two wheels, there is a network of trails at Cardinham Woods and Lanhydrock and whilst at Lanhydrock take in the historic house, gardens and parklands. If you are the green fingered type, spend the day at The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project, and if you want some adventure on the water you can take to the waves at Polzeath or Widemouth Bay or perhaps try your hand at sailing or kayaking at trendy Fowey.
