Bedroom 1

Nestled in a peaceful setting and part of a former convent, Poppets Cottage is as charming as its name implies.

Thoughtfully furnished in a country vintage style, this delightful one-bedroom rural escape offers guests outdoor seating with views across the garden and as night falls, the option to retreat to a cosy sofa and an open fire should the temperature or mood call for it.

With wooden floors that run through to the double bedroom, with its comfy king-size bed, the vaulted sitting-room offers a real sense of light and space and has views across the lawn.

The country kitchen, with its gorgeous Belfast sink, has everything you might need to create a gastronomic feast for two, or perhaps simply a bottle of wine and a plate of bread, cheese and pick-your-own fruit from Buxted Oast Farm Shop on the outskirts of the village. The bathroom gives guests the best of both worlds with a full-size bath and shower to ease away those pre-holiday aches and pains.

Set in the grounds of the owners' home, there is access via the owners' garden to a woodland walk which leads towards the village and which enables guests to take their four-legged friend on an exploration of the area.

The grounds also provide one or two seating areas that give gorgeous views across the valley below, a perfect spot to watch the sun go down. You may even be joined by the owners' free-range chickens which roam the garden from time to time, along with their dog and two gorgeous cats.

Situated on the edge of the stunning High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering one of northern Europe's best surviving medieval landscapes, the village of Buxted offers guests good dining in the two local pubs which are a brisk walk away, a local shop and is served by a direct train from London in just over an hour.

Home to the most beautiful coast and countryside, Sussex offers the perfect holiday escape with a wealth of outdoor activities, numerous places to explore (including Winnie the Pooh’s 100-acre wood), nearby castles, woodland walks and a burgeoning food and wine trail.

If you are looking for upmarket shopping and perfect little lunch spots, Tunbridge Wells is a short drive away as is the historic county town of Lewes, home to Lewes Castle and to the original Bill's restaurant.

A trip to the coast is a little over 15 miles away making a visit to Brighton or Eastbourne an easy day out.
