Who would expect to find the contradiction of an industrial container in a secret woodland setting deep in the Devon countryside? And who would expect it to be a luxurious and completely private escape - George Clark's 'Amazing Spaces' meets Kevin McCloud's 'Grand Designs'? Huxham Hideaway is unique, quirky and utterly original, sat in a stunning private woodland setting with a huge 10 acre meadow rolling downhill in front of it (perfect for four-legged friends to race around in!) and unspoilt countryside views beyond.
This bespoke glamping base has a warm wood-clad interior with a sitting-area at the centre of it, complete with comfy sofa, toasty wood-burner (psst, there's central heating too!), TV (with Amazon Prime Fire Stick, for those cosy evenings in) and a handy shelving unit, sat between two large windows, housing a variety of books, games, a wireless Bluetooth speaker and the WiFi router. The gorgeous modern kitchen is perfectly equipped for your holiday needs - including an oven, hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and even a Nespresso coffee machine! The breakfast bar with its bespoke stools (made with 150 year old antique pine, no less!) makes dining-in easy and enjoyable.
When it's time to turn in, the pocket-sprung memory foam king-size bed awaits, tucked away on a raised platform at one end of the container, with views out towards the hills and the horizon in the distance - the perfect vista to go to sleep and wake up to.
Of course, it wouldn't be luxury glamping without en suite facilities and, golly, Huxham Hideaway does not disappoint. The sparkling, contemporary shower-room quite literally sparkles - there are one penny pieces mounted into the floor, which the light bounces off of to create a stunning effect! This stylish room houses a proper flushing loo, top-of-the-range power shower, wash-basin and a heated towel rail too.
Outside is just as special as inside - the spacious deck is the ideal place for enjoying the beautiful countryside views, taking in the fresh air. Cook up a storm on the barbecue and dine al fresco at the hand-crafted oak sleeper table, relax and unwind with a good book on the outdoor sofa or have a snooze in the hammock - the choice is yours!
The friendly but unobtrusive owners are happy to pick guests up from the local airport, train or bus station during sociable hours and can even offer fold-up bike hire (there are lots of cycle tracks close by) and arrange a variety of delicious hampers to be delivered to you during your stay. Perfect if you take Rover along and want a dog-free day - professional, insured doggy day care is also available on-site (as such, you may notice a few barks when the dogs go out for their twice-daily walks, but this is kept to a minimum and does not operate during the weekend).
Just a few miles from the Cathedral City of Exeter, it's an easy drive to the east Devon Jurassic Coast - with its stunning pebbled beaches at Budleigh Salterton or Sidmouth - and there is plenty of sand at Exmouth and Lyme Regis too - just across the border into Dorset. Also close to the National Trust village of Broadclyst with its classic thatched, lime-washed cottages, this is a location that has much to offer - whether you are looking for a bolt-hole where you can switch off and stay put or a special base to set out and explore the area from, it is all covered here.
