This charming, traditional Grade II Listed cottage is situated in the heart of Dartmoor, in Widecombe-in-the-Moor, an ideal location for exploring the delights of this magnificent National Park. Don your walking boots, pack a raincoat and head out on a new adventure every day. Whichever direction you roam, there are the most glorious uninterrupted views of the majestic tors and rolling hills.
This dog-friendly retreat has been lovingly furnished, ensuring the homely and comfortable feeling of this cottage hits you the moment you walk in; from the warming electric Aga to the wood-burner set in the charming granite inglenook fireplace. Returning home after a day on the moors is a real treat.
There is a good-sized garden with a lawn, an ornamental pond and a small stream that runs down one side, a perfect setting for enjoying a drink and al fresco dining. A discreet outside WC is attached to the cottage. There are wonderful views from the garden which is fully enclosed and private.
The cottage is only a short walk from the charming village green, adjacent to the landmark church and a favourite place for ponies to graze. There is a National Trust building (Church House) and shop, two excellent pub restaurants, two tea-rooms, a Post Office selling basic provisions and a working forge.
Widecombe is one of the oldest and most popular villages on Dartmoor, nestling in a green valley, protected by the mighty Hamel Down rising to the west.
This is just the spot for a great walking holiday where you can come back to a comfortable retreat, unwind and relax. If wanting to venture further afield, Bovey Tracey is home to the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and well worth a visit, if nothing else, for its cafe which does great food. The Co-op garage (in Bovey Tracey) just before you turn left up to the Moor is also very useful for stocking up on all the provisions you have forgotten, it sells almost everything!
Ashburton is also easily accessible, famous for its antiques shops and good food - there are several good restaurants, a lovely tea-room, delicatessen, butchers and fishmonger. RHS Garden Rosemoor is also within striking distance.
This welcoming cottage and special location is the perfect holiday formula for enjoying the finest sights, sounds and smells Dartmoor has to offer. Enjoy!
