Wind your way along the pretty country lane that leads you to Brambles, a delightful cottage set in the peaceful hamlet of Trenode, where the stresses and strains of everyday life will soon become a distance memory. Set around a gravelled courtyard with four other cottages including Swallows Nest (4137), this single-storey barn conversion retains some of its original features creating a real home-from-home experience.
You'll appreciate the countryside setting at its best whilst indulging in afternoon tea in the back garden, which has spectacular far reaching views across open countryside to the moors. With lush wooded valleys and prosperous farmland this beautiful part of Cornwall is a hidden gem, slightly inland from picturesque Looe and Polperro and with easy access to local beaches and coastal walks, as well as a number of golf courses and National Trust properties, this is a great base for couples or small families alike.
Plan the day's adventures over your holiday breakfasts in the cottage-style kitchen/breakfast-room or as you have the time why not take it outside on the terrace overlooking the courtyard. The large sitting/dining-room with its original beams and high ceiling give it a sense of character and space yet still feels snug and cosy thanks to the toasty wood-burner. At the end of the day you'll soon drift off into the land of nod in the two pretty bedrooms, both with exposed beams and overlooking the grassy slope at the back. So where will your adventures take you?
If beach days are on the agenda you're spoilt for choice, Seaton and Downderry are close by, and if you want to catch some waves head over to Whitsand Bay - they're all dog-friendly as well so your four-legged friends will love it here too. For traditional seaside fun head to Looe, wander around the shops and galleries, take a boat trip or drop a line off the banjo pier for some crab fishing whilst indulging in a yummy Cornish ice cream as you wait for a bite. Pop on those walking boots and a varied palette of scenery awaits, from countryside rambles right on your doorstep, a hike across the wide open spaces on the moors or marvel at the stunning scenery on the coastal paths. For a 'good walk ruined' swing those clubs at Looe golf club or Lanhydrock, or why not challenge yourself to the championship course at St Mellion. The historic houses and gardens of Mount Edgcumbe and Lanhydrock (National Trust) are a delight, or head over the border to the historic maritime city of Plymouth to see where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America, Sir Francis Drake played that infamous game of bowls or creating modern history the Tanner brothers are cooking up award-winning cuisine.
