This stunning and spacious period farmhouse is an easy drive inland from the endless sandy surfing beaches of the north Devon coast. The tranquil setting is very private and rural, high up on the side of an unspoilt valley outside the pretty village of Chittlehampton, with utterly stunning panoramic views. The farmhouse has been beautifully renovated and has lovely light-filled sociable living space that opens out onto the really large south-facing terrace with the gardens spread out beyond it. The view stretches for miles and all four of the farmhouse bedrooms enjoy the same outlook.

Behind the farmhouse is an amazing and spacious detached barn conversion, which doubles up as an indoor games-room for you all to use. With high ceilings to the open plan living space, which has large sofas, a giant TV screen, a wood-burning stove and under-floor heating, it is a perfect add-on to the main house.

The main farmhouse has the flexibility of a really large open plan living-room with kitchen and dining areas as the main social space, complete with a wood-burning stove and space for guests to eat together. There are a few steps down to the sofa-area at the far end of the room which has floor to ceiling bookshelves and a whole library of books for you to enjoy whilst there.

There is a walk-through music-room with a piano – the stairs to the first floor rise from this space, and beyond it is the cosy snug with wood-burning stove and TV. The stunning open plan space of the barn provides you with further relaxed seating, table-tennis, and, in effect, a cinema-room, such is the size of the TV screen!

This part of north Devon is beautifully rural and has the bonus of being just a 30 minute drive to some of the best beaches this county has to offer – for example, Instow with miles of sandy beaches, a deli that is impossible to resist – they will make you up a picnic hamper for a day on the beach – and a little seasonal passenger ferry across to the traditional old fishing village of Appledore.

A little further afield are the exhilarating surfing beaches at Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe that give Cornwall a run for its money! North Devon is blessed with endless space and Lower Upcott offers just the same both inside and out. Closer to home there is a little network of country lanes and footpaths to the pretty village of Chittlehampton, and more importantly to the Bell Inn – an exceptionally friendly pub with a great menu for all the family. South Molton is the local market town with a pannier market and some lovely independent shops for holiday treats to take home with you to add to special memories of this wonderful farmhouse.

There are some historic stone barns in the grounds that are politely out of bounds for safety reasons. We know it is irresistible for children to explore but please make sure that no one tries to climb inside. There are some low beams in the main farmhouse and steps from the kitchen/dining-area to the informal sitting-room. Steps lead from the farmhouse up to the barn where there are some internal steps too. *Only 1 cot is provided, bring your own travel cot.
